Question, with two grounds used for TV coverage, what happens with around the ground signage, ie, who gets the money from the sponsorship? Could be unfair advantage $$$$$wise.

Spot on Jimmy we gotta make hay while the sun shines or we will Starve to death :(

But having said that WHY IS THE COMP DYING? ...The alignment is a big part of it as the WAFL was picking up in crowds and it is the best Grass roots footy in Australia.

As for the advertising around the ground. Half of it is out of date and now one really looks at anyway.. Just have to use those banners they stick in the ground for the major sponser and that will be seen. A lot of games will still be played at home grounds and only one game per week will be televised as per ABC now so not a problem for other sponsers as the supporters will see who is behind their club by being at the match.. The players will have sponsers on their jumpers as well so maybe the company will get a bit more FREE exposure..

If one of the grounds is Medibank then Subi will continue their unfair reaping of funds and ERT will now benefit as well, another reason to despise my team!

Cardy do you seriously suggest that the impact of having no games televised from say Basso will have no impact on the advertising revenue streams?

It boggles the mind that there is an expectation that more people will watch a WAFL game on channel 7 than on the ABC. This is just another example of doing something which is patently going to ADVERSELY affect more WAFL clubs than will be positively affected. Why would we want to do this?

I agree with you Swan42, the clubs sell the sponsorship deals to company's with the main draw card being that signage will be visible on home game telecast games, now if the clubs lose this they could very well lose sponsors. just another nail in the coffin!

I think your creating problems. How can you seriously say watching a game on ABC TV highlights signs on the fence and scoreboard. I have watched a few games on ABC and cannot even remember seeing the signs let alone remembering who they were because I am watching the players even at boundry throw ins and take no notice of any signage.
I do see the signs when I go to the games but I certainly dont make a point of remembering them.
Now the sponsers on the Jumpers I do remember... cg WP Channel 9
I do see the sponsers on newsletters and they do stay around
I do see the banner put in front of the players at the breaks e.g WP has Joondalup Shopping centre.

To your phrase it boggles my mind that you actually think it will make a difference if Channel 7 broadcasts from two grounds. I am sure if the clubs jump up and down there will be a compensation package worked out.

Unless you suggest we get a sublimal message when we look at the signs which causes us to use that advertiser? B)

Cardy, My son works in the advertising industry albeit in London and when we have talked abt advertising whilst you may not overtly see the signs your head will take it in. HJ's and others paid people to count how many times their name comes up on a screen during a broadcast, how many times someones says patersons or ahg etc.

Same as products used in tv shows. Nothing subliminal abt it but yet ......

Wow Grump despise is a very strong word I know your passionate but I'm taken aback by that. I feel channel seven will not be a stable platform at all. Commercial TV stations are doing it tough I just don't see the numbers stacking up for them.

Cardy, mate I have no doubt that you take no notice of signs when watching a broadcast game on TV, but I can prove to you the clubs use the broadcasting thing as a selling tool when trying to sell the signage to a potential customer.....I should know.

Exactly Lucifer you have hit the nail on the head. I do see the signs when watching AFL games but their budget is a lot bigger and the sponsership is huge so they must use every means possible.. At times it must annoy the players as the signs are changing all the time and this draws your attention to them.

Falcon of course I understand that the offer of signs to potential sponsers is a marketing tool and does get a few in. They most probably like seeing their signs as well but I wonder how many actually take them in as I said above.

As I said also if the clubs feel they will lose sponsers because of the Chn 7 broadcast some agreement will be reached.

I did read a poster on here say that the Agreement in SANFL was working really well and we must look at what Channel 7 is willing to offer over the ABC it could be good for the game.

And then we have as an example the Eagles move to Lathlain as their home camp where they will pay Perth $30,000 a year because they will lose their naming Sponser.I posted the details on the EP thread which I assume not many read :)
Here is the link for the deal and full details

Most probably turn into a Foxtel cup type of comp because a lot of WAFL supporters will walk because of this Alignment bullshit. It failed once where EP won 3 premierships and they dropped it yet they are making the same mistake again.
