Freezin it is quite simple the Eagles will disposed of the club formerly known as East Perth like a used ...... when they move to Lathlain Park Oval. After 5 years of treating the traditional East Perth supporters with contempt and completely alienating them they will no money, no finances and no future. Then Bronte will get his wish of an 8 team WAFL competition.

Yep, that was the reason why I disagreed with your plan at the time. Zones! The most important thing to all WAFL clubs.

But we have another problem. One I didn't understand until I spoke with some East Perth people recently and that is Bronte has been pumping an extraordinary amount of money into East Perth for many years to keep them alive. One person said it was as much as $500000 per year some years.

He isn't prepared to do that anymore.

If East Perth were to go it alone again, they would have to find that money from somewhere and they don't seem to think that they can.

In the mean time, they are going to become addicted to the financial support provided by the Eagles, just as they were addicted to to the support Bronte gave them.

I have heard the same stories mate, but I reckon that is just a meek cop out! All clubs except Subi are living day to day and year to year, plus the WAFL community wouldn't let East Perth fold up as much as we dislike them

I agree, it does seem weird that only one club (East Perth) believe that they can't survive while the others keep chugging on.

The problem is, if those making the decisions at East Perth have convinced themselves that they can't continue without Bronte's money, then, they are as good as finished anyway. I mean, if the resolve simply isn't there from within then no one can save them.

The EP supporters who don't want the alignment should get together and come up with an alternative plan as soon as they can. Finding alternative sponsors etc because if the Eagles pull out of this deal EP will need to find sponsor money quickly and I'm not convinced that the WAFC will bail out a G7 club like they have Peel.

The question is, how did they get to this point where one person was propping the club up financially for so many years.

absolutely spot on la hincha....they will be doomed...nothing surer!

my theory is EP will be planning to make hay (a few bails) while the sun shines. After 5 years they may have a couple of million $$$ in cash put aside, and then re-load for the next decade. Obviously if WestCoast do what the Adelaide Crows have done, and I prey they do, then EP will need a whole new approach.

But this alignment arrangement can also make them naïve and lazy in a survival sense, and they could come out after 2018 in worse shape than before.

But it seems the sanfl have really hit a winner with their format. Whilst we all detest the AFL reserves situation in our competitions, the sanfl have approached it with a view to attaching the Crows and Port brand to their league, which in turn draws attention to their traditional clubs to the younger or new breed of supporter. This would otherwise be non-achievable. The reality here in WA is having the same old (EastPerth / Peel Thunder) does nothing to attract new blood, and nothing to attract commercial TV interest.

we repeat ourselves regularly I know, just wish those in authority would watch whats happening over the border and change things here. asap

The case made by some at the Royal eagles that they cant survive without the Eagles ownership need to look towards Midland way and see how a club Like Swans with a similar supporter base have dealt with a far more serious financial situation which like EP was self inflicted, but to their great credit they have not curled up in a corner and said woe is me, they have (we all trust)taken steps to try and get themselves heading in the right direction financially and are flourishing on field to the point that they are equal top place, so any excuses put forward by the pathetic feeble EP mob just don't carry much weight. Where is their fight to survive?

Spot On Jardine

The best option I see is a total take over/rebranding of EP as the Eagles and Peel as the Dockers,,,in a sense I can see it happening down the track by natural drift anyway.,

Most clubs live on donations outside of sponsors and WAFC funding. Swans have very generous sponsorship arrangements. Several clubs just holding on apart from Subiaco of course. Can you expect one man at EP to put in half a million a year for ever, I hate the alignment but can see why our president would like it.

WCEEP have relied on the car salesman to a point where they have been too lazy to get off their arses and find the necessary funds to survive. IMHO, the main reason they have sold their club out is not for money. It's for flags, flag, flags. Just like their 3 so called "flags" that the WCE granted them earlier this century. Chasing success at the cost of the competition is disgraceful.

The second Adelaide Criws V Port Adelaide SANFL drew 6300 fans. A couple of other Crows games have drawn 6000 too. Sanfl crowds are way up this year because of the Adelaide Crows reserves side mainly because they give the Sanfl an game each week with no byes gives the clubs and fans momentum.
