"The day of the laughing cavalier...... The worst day in the life of Frederick David Book, our most favoured President and after whom the Perth Oval grandstand is named. We'd beaten Swans 4 times straight, won 18 games in a row and then lost the Grand Final, the year was 1961 and Swans had won their very first premiership."

W.A.F.L. teams, Subiaco and East Perth toured India in October, 1969 promoting Australian Rules Football in the Sub-Continent. Two games were played in New Delhi, with each team winning a game. Subiaco narrowly won the first game while East Perth comfortably won the second game; 24.20 (164) to 12.10 (82).

Mal Brown and Hayden Bunton to great ambassadors to the Game.

Hey why not Might give the IPL a shake :) Some great pics from the tour

That stuff is brilliant Cardy. Thanks. It just depresses me a bit to see what the football world has let what we had, become what it is. Especially on nights like this when I'm alone and on the red...
That photo of Nicky Winmar is a ripper. That must have been the year or maybe two after I played on the same team as him at Pingelly.

Ha yeah. Doesn't hurt to blow off a bit of steam every now and then.
I've had a bugger of a month. New job, and my poor old dad, subi member for 57 years, passed away after an unexpected illness from complication of surgery. Anyway, the missus has gone for a weekend away and I'm playing Lucinda Williams loud and having an ok time.
Hey Cardy. If I recall right from footygoss you are ex military? Me too, maybe a bit younger than you. I'm an ex RAN Junior Recruit from Jan 1980.

Started off in PMG as a JPO (Telegram boy) in 68 . Joined 68 Vietnam 70 then continued for 20 years. 16 Years with Police Comms as in Signals in Army.
Retired now. Getting Van ready for another trip East and heading off Sunday. Hitting a ARMY reunion in the Barossa Valley (there goes the liver) then off to Canberra to see my Son etc etc. Got the grog packed and the Fishing Rods. Wife looking after the Food side of it LOL. Will be away for 4 months back in Late Jan.
Always been a WP supporter as I was dragged along in the late 50's and 60's but didnt have to be dragged along after that..
Missed a lot of WAFL because posted over east all of the time. Got the results from Tuesdays Australian newspaper as it was all we had - NO Internet then.. How things have changed.
Catching up on my Missed years now though. A lot is missing though and hard to find some history but getting there.
Thats why I start topics like this because some of it is new to me and like to share it around.

Anyway Singha have a good Christmas and New Year.. See you in 2014.
p.s Loved watching the Fleet and the ships going up the Harbour. in Sydney on TV.. Incredible display I bet it bought some memories back.. I have a mate who just got out of the Navy to work on the mines and he said after watching that he has had second thoughts and might go back...
