2010.
SD & CL played 5 times that season for 2 wins and a draw each.
CL did smash us at Claremont Oval twice (including the 2nd Semi Final) but the GF was never going to be played there.

Also from memory 1983, 1984 & 1990 were all considered to be a fairly even contest going into the game.
In 2010 every Swans supporter I talked to was confident that we could beat Claremont if we played our best footy and I'm sure the players felt that way as well.  Yet the media gave us no chance. We were $3.45 to win on the day before the game, would you believe that!  The media love for Claremont culminated in ABC numpty Todd Ridley confidently declaring before the game that he would "swim to Sweden" if Swans won.

definitely 1979 and 1980 from around that era - and there were some expert opinions from legends of the game at the time mate
1979 South went in pretty hot faves.

Just off this topic. Just read an article from Townsend about the WAFL extending this season by two weeks to give all clubs another Bye and avoiding a clash with the AFL Grand Final.

Meaning that the WAFL Grand Final will be staged in the first weekend of October just like last year.

Makes a shedload of sense and given there is likely to be no WA afl teams in the finals after the first week, if at all, hopefully the footy punters will be hungry for some footy and this WAFL finals series looks like being the most even for many years.
