A Grade - Round 1 2013.

With Fair and Square not joining us from Footygoss, here is a brief write up for Round 1. If anyone knows F&S, please have him join Ozfooty. Myself like many other enjoyed his weekly write ups.

North Beach vs Trinity Aquanis

Not in years has round 1 been so important for the Beach Boys. After Billy Duckworth's illustrous career that yielded a stack of flags, the number 1 team in the WAAFL over the past decade have appointed ex-Eagles Premiership player David 'Beans' Hynes to guide the club. If recent history is anything to go by, North Beach tend to drop games early, something Hynes will be trying to arrest. Will be a cracker of a game with the home ground advantage the only reason why I am tipping them for a win. A win from North Beach will ensure that any critics that
Hynes has will remain silent, a loss and who knows what will happen.

Beach by a 18 points.

Maddington Vs Collegians

A fierce rivally that started when both teams played off for the B Grade flag a few years ago. The mail on Maddington is that they have recruited strongly, not much goss from the boys up on the hill in Dalkeith. Maddo tend to have late runs to the season where they pick up wins but start poorly. I am predicting the same for this game. Collegians have an abundance of youth and that should see them run all over the Bulls. Just watch out the holes and ditches at Harmony Field.

Fremantle CBC vs Whitford

CBC coming up to B grade to face 5th place Warriors from last year. Whitfords disappointed with how they finished last year and have added some quality mids and talls to their list. Had a successful outing at North Fremantle last weekend and they are poised to stamp their authority on Round 1. Haven't heard much from the boys down at CBC, lets just hope the gound is in good nick as always and they remember to pay the gas bill.

Wesley Curtin vs Mt Lawley

Haven't heard much from both camps however Mt Lawley are confident of a win in round 1. As have some suggested on this site, they are cherry ripe for a red hot tilt at the flag this year and could be a surprise packet. Wesley have lost their best key man in Dawes and this will be a big loss as he provides such a focal point for the team.

University vs Swan Athletic

Josh Wooden's men will be coming up against clearly the most in form side over the last 2 years. A couple of flags have the Uni boys looking for a three-peat this year. Don't know about the ins/outs for them but if they have managed to keep the majority of their list they will be too good this week. Swan Athletic may find this game as a real benchmark to see whether their intense preseason has paid off.

Round 1 is one of those doozys where anything can happen.

Most games in A Grade could go either way any week as is.

I would not be writing my boys from Swan Athletic off - Solid 22 players starting this week. But who knows.

Couple of blockbuster games to kick off round 1 in particular NB vs TA’s & Maddo vs Coll.

Most around the league are keen to see what new beach are about with a change up of personnel and staff. I’m sure TA’s will be setting them self for another big year and I expect this contest to have finals like intensity as both clubs try to impose themselves on season 2013. Home ground advantage is huge and the NB faithful will be out in force.

Collegians young list broke down with injury late in season 2012 and I expect with another 12 months and another preseason under their belt they will be a much more slicker and durable unit. Maddo have injected some pace into their list but are lacking a tall defender buy all reports. Expect this to be a fast game and a huge crowd at Harmony fields.

Wesley V Mt Lawley should be a ripper with Lawley accounting for CBC easily after a slow start and Wesley rolling Uni convincingly in scratch matches held last weekend.

I'd expect a few teething problems early on in the season for lawley with a new coach at the helm and I would think Weseley would be looking to make a statement to the comp early.

Great write up Shiz. Although I have put my tips on the other site I still cant figure out if there is a place you can view everybody the other tips.

The results of the Uni v Wesley scratchy last week is very interesting. It suggests to me that Wesley are going to be much stronger than I anticipated and will give Mt Lawley a big rune for their money.

Darren, I like your selections and couldn't have previewed things better myself.

I understand Ben Colreavy just strolled in to Uni as well. Handy bonus when that happens.

As an aside, Scarborough will be amongst the ones to beat in B Grade if they can hold on to their recruits (Smailes is a gun) and I forecast before the season has even started that North Freo and Scarbs will finish 1-2.
