Well here we are, Round 9, and MrM is excited because we are nearly over the hump and onto towards finals. It has been a close season thus far and MrM is excited to see how it is all going to unfold, which leads MrM to his next point. There does have to be some good news for all, MrM is coming home for a brief period and you may be lucky to sight him. MrM will be making sure that all who haven’t done so already do have a chance to meet this great gent, what a serendipitous occasion it would be.
In disappointing news it is sad to see our man TG in the news again this time admitting he deliberately exceeded his quota of potatoes allowed in 2015. I am sure he will get slapped with an exorbitant fine which no doubt will pale in comparison to compared to others who appear in court for more serious charges.

Lastly, we have 2 different clubs in 2 weeks run afoul of the WAAFL rules and have their score annulled. Not sure what each side did, it could be a number of things, however now is not the time to play the blame game, and you can only get better.

Let us have a look at this weekend’s fixtures, some good games here.

Collegians v Mt Lawley @Dalkeith Oval

A big weekend for the boys at “The Shank” with this game a good chance to boost their chances of finishing in the top 3 again with a win over a Mt Lawley side that needs to start winning or they will fall behind the pack. It will be interesting to see if Collegians lose any over the Uni break, but time will tell. Mt Lawley, as said will need to win here if they want to play finals. There big bodies may aide them in the wet here, but may nullify there tall targets in the “Brothers of Destruction”. I think the Collegians can get a win here.
Collegians by 3 goals

Swan Athletic v Kingsway @Fawell Park MOTR

MrM was going to go with another game, but it is 2nd v 3rd which is why this is Match Of The Round.

MrM hears rumours of a wedding up in wine country this weekend, meaning a few of the Swan Ath players may be subject to availability. They wouldn’t want to miss this game though as they need to keep winning in order to secure their ladder position. Kingsway are coming off a disappointing loss last weekend and will be out to rectify that. Will be a tough game no doubt but I think Swan Ath can pull it together and get a much needed win here.
Swan Athletic by 2 goals

North Fremantle v Wanneroo @Gil Fraser Oval

Well North Freo are flying at the moment, not just in the league, but across all grades. If they are to keep this up, then they should feel pretty confident about their chances in September. Although, they will need to take each week as it comes and this week they face a Wanneroo side looking to maintain here form. Wanneroo should feel like they are a very good chance here as they did manage to scrap together a win last year at this very venue. It will be a hard slog game, especially if the rain hits early. Because I like to wind up this Boothead character I shall tip the Roos to cause an upset here.
Wanneroo by 1 goal

Kelmscott v Maddington @John Dunn Memorial Park

MrM nearly didn’t review this game. Kelmscott, get there only win of the season thus far annulled as they must have done something wrong. Maddington, are yet to fire a shot, with only one win so far. Could be a bit of fire in the game here, MrM is predicting that much, as for the winner, I think Kelmscott may get over the line for a win. Whether the result stands come Tuesday...that is another question.
Kelmscott by 1 goal

Hamersley Carine v Stirling @Percy Doyle

A big game for Hamersley here, a game in which they cannot afford to let slip. They may have some depleted playing stocks, but it will still be 22 v 22 on Saturday 2.30pm so they will need all 22 to contribute if they are to win. Stirling, although disappointed with last week’s loss (which turned into a win) should feel they are a real chance here. MrM thinks they can get it done as well. MrM also has another suggestion. These two clubs merge in 2018, play at the newly refurbished Carine Open Space Oval and call themselves the City of Stirling Hawks. Stirling to get an upset win here and keep them out of relegation for now.
Stirling by 2 goals

Good luck all. MrM is now exam free, will be tidying up his dorm and ready to come home.

Mr.M, your game write ups are what get me through the week, any chance of bringing the game reviews back when you land back in the northern suburbs?

As for the games this weekend

Collegians by 2 Melbourne bitters (goals) in what should be a cracking affair.
The Teal bastards to also bounce back in league and ressies as thr wedding will take 15 blokes from the 2 teams at swan ath
Wanneroo's potty mouth fans to get stuck into not only the players but also Woewodin and sneak the 4 points by 14 points in a rip snorter
Hamersly carine still too good even with a few out in a 7 goal win
Maddington to get the choccies but who knows by how much. Guess it depends on what country players want to play or if the 10 min travel isnt too far for kelmy

Should be a real good round of footy. Keep the posts flowing fellow bloggers and up the blues for a cheeky win agaisnt the giants

Kingsway looked really good yesterday against a depleted Swan Ath side. At this stage, of the season it looks to be Kingsway and North Fremantle as the front runners so far.

Kingsway will only improve further upandabout considering they were missing 3 of there better players yesterday as well (work and state 23's) I could only see swan ath missing a couple of there usuals ( ruckman was a big loss I agree) and I also believe they will be missing a few to a cricket trip shortly as well. north freo definitely the benchmark though.

Ventured down Gil to check out the match between theladder leaders and the Wan roos as my side were pencilled in for a game against the bottom team in the the As down the freeway. The neighbours too good! Winners all over the ground, looked like a good unit and not seeing any b grade over the last few years was interested in seeing a couple of sides in the top 5 and standard of the comp. besides that, canteen always good at GFR.
Wanneroo never in it... Norths side seemed to have improved from the last time they were in the top league, well done to the new coach and players but standard definitely looks a few steps down from A grade. Anyone have thoughts on this? Seeing the way The two sides elevated this year are travelling - is this a fair assumption? Or just a year to year thing - as Scarborough have seemed to have handled themselves quite well for a couple of years..
Kelmscott and hamersley relegated in 2016; One struggling, the other mid table. Year before, north struggled, mount lawley winless - seem to also be struggling in B grade. Is it time the Ammos have to start looking at a one up - one down rule again? Some sides dropping down, just really struggling - check melville out in C1 grade. Be good to see people's thoughts in Bs as have 2 up and down from As and Cs.
On another note- all tipsters above chose collegians over mount lawley yet there is differing scores on the sportingpulse website and live scores; anyone got an actual score - Stirling winning then puts mount lawley close to the drop zone if they did lose - big game against the rejuvenated Kelmscott next week!

The Frase - I agree there's definitely a huge gap between B grade and A grade, and will be for a number of years to come, doesn't take a genius to know that there's a heap of money being paid to players in A grade. Wembley and Whitfords have tried their best to compete in A grade by getting the cheque book out but still no where near it. Scarborough have obviously been smarter with their $$ and got better players.

paying players keeps the good players in the WAAFL system and makes A grade a very high quality comp but hurts the other grades and the smaller clubs around, depends what road the WAAFL want to go down.

Looks like a very even comp in B grade (apart from bottom 3), so there should be a very exciting finish to the year in B grade,, but who ever gets promoted at years end will no doubt struggle in A grade the year after.

CK. I'll take the bait. I think the issue this year for Whitford has been the lack of cheque book. No recently acquired gun players, relying heavily on colts from the previous year has been the downfall.
Some returning players from country that have played previously at the club, would be astounded if they were being paid.
