Gosnells were missing a couple of players (but still fielded 22), but Swan Athletic were SERIOUSLY good.

Murray Newman (ex-Eagles and Swan Districts) and rumours of a number other former Swan Districts players in this team.

The way they played and worked together was just stunning.

The term 'April premiers' has been around a long time, but if this group stays together (and continues to play that well), I can't see too many others getting close to them this season.

Surely Newman would be in ether there 1's or 2's wouldn't think he would be down playing e grade footy. Will be interesting to see how they go for the rest of the season.

I'd say he won't be there come June-July when
Swan Athletic's 1s and 2s are decimated by injuries...

Had a look at their team lists the last two weeks and some serious quality in that side.
But seriously why would players of that quality want to play such a low level of footy? I feel sorry for the oppsotiin teams in the comp who are genuine 3rds footballers for their clubs who come up against a Swan Ath side woth this talent. Doesnt make it enjoyable for them at all surely

Swan Athletic
36.16.232
Coolbinia West Perth
1.2.8

Surely a wake up call to the WAAFL to have a discussion with Swan Athletic here.
Just making a joke of an otherwise fairly competitive competition...

What should they advise them to do?

For what it's worth, they should be telling them to play their best players in their top sides rather than making a joke of E2 with players who clearly lack the ability of ex WAFL and AFL listed players.

Although the fact they've already decided to play in this competition, the conversation is probably just going to fall on deaf ears.

So there is nothing the WAAFL can do considering Swan Athletic were getting 60+ Seniors (1s and 2s) and 50+ Colts on the track during preseason. This is due to many players returning to the club from being away or serious injuries plus heaps of new young guys that have followed the new Colts Coach, resulting in the first time ever the club fielding a second Colts team instead of creating a 4th Senior side. So as there weren't quite enough Senior players to get a 4th team which would have resulted being placed in D2 and D2R, they were placed back in E2 where they played last year and were quite average and missed finals. It's not their fault as a club they have heaps of numbers or the WAAFLs fault for placing them back in E2, but they didn't want to struggle for numbers in a 4th side come Winter or middle of the year when injuries hit the club and they may have to forfeit games.

Now let's talk about the actual E2 team this year in which everyone else is talking about: Murray Newman has played only 1 game so far this year, only 1 other player with WAFL League experience (4/5 years ago) who actually played at Midland last year and 1 other player who has WAFL Reserves experience. They both have young families and can't commit to training twice a week to play in the Seniors ahead of the other 60+ players at the club. But 2 players don't make a whole team so successful. There have apprantely been 5/6 changes per week to the team due to FIFO, weddings, unavailability and a rotation policy at the club and in this team this year. Even heard there were up to 10 changes to the team who played against CWP on the weekend, who didn't actually help themselves with only 16 players (maybe the reason for the major blow out). And just remember, 60+ Seniors (1s and 2s) doesn't go into 44 meaning there have been some of those guys playing in this grade too. A lot of the E2 team this year are mates who have been around for a long time but just add some depth with a couple of new guys and some dropping down from Seniors.

It is unfortunate but I don't see anyone questioning West Coast who have an ex 'WAAFL League Association B&F' running around for them. Why wouldn't he be playing in a higher grade? Sometimes it's just circumstances and lifestyles that effect some players playing in a higher grade, and it might be unfortunate for some but that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
Don't have too many 'sour grapes' with the boys in the Valley.
