Well we are nearing the end of the 2016 WAAFL B Grade season and we still have many exciting games to keep us all interested with. We still have the order of the top 5 to be determined, and still a slim chance of 2 teams outside the Top 5 to launch themselves into contention, but MrM thinks it could be too little too late for those. However the battle for relegation this weekend reaches its highest point with teams 8 v 10 playing each other in a contest that will almost definitely determine who gets relegated in season 2016.
In off field news well it's been a slow couple of weeks, since the election MrM has found it tough to piece together what to focus on, late nights spent watching Le Tour have found nothing fruitful as C.Froome is clearly way to good for all. However the Olympics are right around the corner MrM thought lets get the ball rolling...
what's your favourite event to watch? MrM will reveal his closer to the event, but we have plenty to choose from.
Just before we get into this weekends football MrM would like to acknowledge the WAFL tribunal and their complete lack of competence. Not just this week, but if you follow the WAFL, then you'll know that week in week out they show they have no idea...
Alright let's get into the real football now, some Round 15 WAAFL B action.
Swan Athletic v Mt Lawley @Fawell Park
Last time they met
Mt Lawley 10.13 (73) defeated Swan Athletic 9.13 (67)
Well after a late season resurgence Swan Ath have amazingly hoisted themselves out of relegation calculations and put themselves right into a potential finals bolter if they can win this weekend. A win over Mt Lawley would be huge and much needed if they have ambitions to play finals. Mt Lawley will need a win this weekend to ensure they can finish Top 3 and earn that double chance, they are probably the best team outside the top 2 and will need a win this weekend or they face the possibility of not getting s home final at all. Should be a good game out at Swan Ath, but I think Mt Lawley will get a vital win here.
Mt Lawley by 3 goals
Kingsway v Collegians @Kingsway Reserve MOTR
Last time they met
Collegians 8.12 (60) defeated Kingsway 8.8 (56)
Well I could have gone with s different game here, but this game will shape the makeup of the Top 5 so it's the reason I have awarded this clash Match Of The Round.
Kingsway will need to regroup this weekend after a disappointing loss last weekend in the wet to Wembley, but it's the 8 goal margin which should have them fired up for this weekends game. They would have expected better, but have a chance here to get that double chance come finals time or a home final beckons. Collegians had a good win over Mt Lawley last weekend and it's given them hope of finishing in that Top 3. They will need to best a tough Kingsway side away from home though and that's no easy task. I think Collegians will get up here.
Collegians by 2 goals
Whitford v North Fremantle @Macdonald Reserve
Last time they met
North Fremantle 13.12 (90) defeated Whitford 11.7 (73)
Whitford came up with a win last weekend, but may be hurt with arguably their best player going down with a shoulder injury late in the game. If they win this weekend and other results go their way, they should be sitting in a very comfortable position to finish either first or second on the table, they did however last time lose to North Freo. North Freo, despite their recent drop in form, can still play finals but will need plenty to go their way and will need an upset win here. They can do it, but will need to play 100 minutes of consistent football. Whitford will win here though.
Whitford by 3 goals
Melville v Wanneroo @Meville Reserve
Last time they met
Wanneroo 25.13 (163) defeated Melville 5.5 (35)
Well it's definitely do or die here for Melville. A win and they give themselves every chance of avoiding relegation, a loss and it will definitely be a struggle to avoid going back to C Grade in 2017. Some people do remarkable things when they have their backs against the wall though. Wanneroo played well last week but not playing 100 minutes of football cost them in the end. They are in the same position as Melville here as it is win at all costs. Wanneroo have had some close losses this year, but I doubt that will happen this weekend as they should get a win here.
Wanneroo by 3 goals
Quinns Districts v Wembley @Ridgewood Park
Last time they met
Wembley 16.15 (111) defeated Quinns District 7.10 (52)
Quinns play much better football at home then they do when they are away however to win this weekend they may need to play exceptional football and hope Wembley don't show up. They face a tough task here, but stranger things have happened in football. Wembley, are flying, no doubt about it and are sitting atop the ladder for a reason, perhaps it's the new home ground and facilities which are spurring them along. They shouldn't take Quinns too lightly though, but I think Wembley will get a win here.
Wembley by 5 goals
Good luck to all this weekend, hopefully the bad weather holds off as MrM likes his football dry.
To those who play football west of the Mitchell, mainly that club who is named after a road/shopping centre, you're suspiciously quiet, hope all is well.
Much love MrM.
