Unless either North Beach or North Fremantle can secure a win against their top two opponents this week, I’d suggest we will be down to only six teams left with a genuine chance of making the finals after the completion of the Rnd 7 games.

Trinity Aquinas 1st (5 & 1) Vs North Beach 8th (2 & 6)
North Beach scrambled up for their 2nd win of the season by less than a goal. In difficult conditions TA’s only managed to put away the winless Kalamunda side in the final term. This will be a season defining game for North Beach. A win against the odds will keep alive their hopes for a finals berth, whereas a loss means they are still in the red zone for relegation. I expect another spirited performance from the Beach but I think TA’s will have too many options up forward.

TA’s by 5 goals

West Coast Cowan 4th (4 & 2) Vs University 5th (4 & 2)
West Coast fought valiantly against the powerhouse CBC team but in the end fell agonisingly short by two points. If as I have suggested, WCC will finish in the top three this year, they need to come out and win the critical games. This week’s match up against University will be their most important of the season. A win will keep them in sight of the top 3, but a loss will mean that they fall away from the top three sides by two clear games. It should be a ripper of a game and at home I’m tipping a West Coast “upset”.

West Coast by 5 points

North Fremantle 7th (2 & 4) Vs CBC 2nd (5 & 1)
The CBC boys escaped with the win last Saturday and will want to consolidate their 2nd place position on the Table. Nth Freo have been very unlucky this year losing two of their games by less than a goal. To have any chance of making the five the Magpies must win this encounter. I think it will be close, particularly as it will be played down at Gil Fraser, but in the end the Maggies don’t have the depth across all lines that the CBC team enjoy.

CBC by 4 goals

Mt Lawley 10th (0 & 6) Vs Kelmscott 3rd (5 & 1)
After a couple of improved performances Mt Lawley fell back again and was belted by Uni last Saturday. You have to win at least 6 games to avoid relegation. Another big loss will make the task of staying in A Grade in 2016 almost impossible. Kelmscott answered their critics with a fantastic win against Wesley last week and it is hard to see Mt Lawley having any chance in this match up.

Kelmscott by 7 goals

Wesley Curtin 6th (3 & 3) Vs Kalamunda 9th (0 & 6)
In going down to Kelmscott last Saturday, Wesley lost a golden opportunity to consolidate their top 5 position. Kalamunda were improved performers against TA’s but like Mt Lawley must win to keep alive any chance of staying alive in 2015. It is very hard to see that happening and I tip Wesley to win comfortably.

Wesley by 5 goals

Nice tips Big Al. I beg to differ in the west coast Cowan game and uni game though, university as the favourite and still come away with a win.

TAs by 2 goals in a tight game,
North freo to cause an upset only just though,
Kelmscotts dollar bills won't let them down this week, $$
Wesley by 8 goals

TAs seem to be very good at the shoebox - north beach lucky to not be 1-5 and still in relegation zone - TAs by 10 goals
Uni by 5 goals over west coast who had a much tougher game last week in the rain
CBC to beat cross town rivals north freo by 7 goals and show the magpies who rules the roost
Kelmscott by 12 goals over mount lawley - who will be 0-9 after first round, hawks to B grade and they will struggle in that grade looking at first 6 games- worst side in A grade in a number of years
Wesley by 5 goals v Kalamunda

Long time reader - first time poster. Big Al - I enjoy your write-ups and thanks for going to the effort. Also enjoying the debate around payer payments and the plans to address the current unrest. I think debate is good and with enough views, a common sense answer usually results.

As a long-time Mount Lawley player, supporter and member, I can share that we are obviously disappointed with the current year performances to date but the club has good coaches and committed players. The depth of the club has been tested this year in particular with injuries at the senior grade level which then impacts all other teams. The benefit being that our colts (which have huge potential and are well coached) are given exposure and opportunies at the top level. In this regard, I think the future is bright for the club. We have two colts teams and have great feeder clubs in the area, including Mt Lawley, Coolbinia, Morley, Noranda, Bayswater, Bassessdean etc.

Mount Lawley is a strong club with loyal supporters and a rich history. 2015 so far may not have been a great year for on-field performance but I have no doubt the club will rebound during the rest of the year and will take positives into 2016 with a good mix of experienced players, strong colts pushing up and when a raft of players will return from long term injury, travel and stints away to add to the depth of the club.

Anyway, tips for the other games:

TAs - packed full of stars (which is great for the comp) and doing well across all grades. Would surely have to win the flag this year with the quality of the personnel running around - anything less would be disappointing I'm sure.

Uni - always strong with reasonable depth. This will be a good game.

CBC - strong again this year but looking to lack the dominance of last year.

Wesley Curtin over Kala who also haven;t found their mojo this year.

Mayor- cheers for the update on the hawks... That explains a few things, but as a mount lawley man, do you honestly believe you can avoid B grade? I have not seen a club in this position after round 6 turn it around to survive being relegated - your aspect on this would be great. At least we have the same tips this round, but you didn't let us know whether you picked Kelmscott or Lawley???

Frase - when you're sitting 0-6 with 45% percentage, it's always going to require a monster effort to get things back on track. I suspect that there will be positives arising during the remainder of the year. The team showed last year that it can upset a few clubs when it all comes together so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again. Whether that's enough to avoid B Grade, I hope so. If it doesn't, I would dispute your earlier comment that lawley would struggle in B Grade for the reasons provided above.

In terms of tipping, I'll always tip my own team.

Cheers
