We didn’t have the best start to our day, numbers being an issue the coach getting on the phone to try to have some sort of bench. But we got there in the end. A club legend celebrated his 250th senior club game but our reserves were up against the top side who are undefeated and are reigning premiers. The early game was competitive around the contest but once Ellenbrook had clean ball their run and foot skills gave them a substantial edge which they carried throughout the game holding our reserves who were sitting second to no goals. I didn’t see the second half but I imagine it was much of the same.
Both teams came to play in the league game and it started with a free flowing first quarter both teams finding the scoreboard with Kenwick leading 4 goals to 3 at the first break. The second quarter was a little more defensive with both backlines repelling their fair share of kicks forward the spare man Ellenbrook play back was taking full advantage and cutting the ball off repeatedly, But you can’t turn everything away and Kenwick had the better of it leading at the half 7.4 to 4.1. The third quarter was all Kenwick defensively holding Ellenbrook scoreless for the term and kicking a few up the other end. The last quarter was a slog both ways but the scoring continued I think it was a tied quarter with 3 goals each to leave the final margin 14.10 – 7.3. This loss leaves Ellenbrook three games outside the 5 while still a mathematical possibility of making finals it is a huge task that I don’t think they can manage.
