There was nothing in it & Shaw fell for it. Ballantyne will cop his fair share but it wont faze him & he will hurt his opponents on the scoreboard.

Ballantyne, what can I say.

Second rate overrated bucket of ****, comes to mind.

And yes someone needs to give him aq real touch up, then we would see how tough he was.

The next hard vball he gets will be his first.

Stephen Smeath had more balls.

Stephen Smeath was a very effective half forward flanker in West Perth's premierships in '69 and '71. He had pace to burn, these days they would call him an outside player.

Cant say i like ballantyne....but if he played for my team i would love what he does. Gets under their skin and makes them react. He does also give away a few free kicks, but he definately gets more than he gives away. Everyone sees what he does and what he is like, why cant the opposition see that and learn to get around it? Wouldnt be too hard for a professional athlete....

Given the unfetted desire of the commentary team to try to find vision of Ballantyne causing Shaw to react and unable to come up with anything is indicative that Shaw was the one and only guilty party. It is amazing that any attack on Ballantyne seem to get the blessing of the media collective; yet most, if not all, clubs have a similar type of player to Ballantyne.

I am not sure why people do not rate Ballantyne as I would think that most people would want a player of his ilk in their side.

BH whilst you are fully aware of my position on Freo with respect to the WAFL hist club scenario I trust you will be equally damning of other players, and one G Ablett Jnr comes to mind, who have gone whingeing through various media about Crowley tagging him.

It is also interesting to see how the reaction of Whately and Robinson with respect to the Geelong player getting two weeks for a head high contact is in marked contract to their lack of zealotry on behalf of other players.

Further it was interesting that both Whately and Robinson were strident in their criticism of Freo for not accepting the Fyfe one week and were equally as dogmatic that this would severely impact Freo for the Collingwood match. Whilst I am not privy to every word spoken or written by the two of them post the Collingwood match there didn't appear to be any mea culpa about their prediction on the Freo Collingwood match.

Swan....I dont think that Ablett Jnr whinged through the media about Crwoley tagging him. From what I recall he was commenting on Crowleys tagging techniques whilst watching a game. Pretty sure he was advising the fact that Ling was a better tagger as he played the ball as well, not just the man like Crowley. I am not agreeing with GAJ's points, other than Lingy was a better tagger, but I don't believe that is whinging.

Also "yet most, if not all, clubs have a similar type of player to Ballantyne"? Not sure that is correct. If you mean similar as in a small forward, then yes, but the majority of clubs do not have that kind of player who has a sole (maybe not sole) mission to antagonise their opponent into giving away free kicks. Their would definately be a couple in the AFL, but definately not "most, if not all"!!
