I attended the Eagles V Melbourne game yesterday at Optus Stadium. As a neutral supporter I really enjoyed the game as it was a free flowing contest with quite a number of twists and turns and wasn't decided till time on in the last quarter. The Demons were the better team on the day and they deservedly won.

However, I was slightly taken aback with the atmosphere in the ground which was obviously 90% Eagles. I was surrounded by many West Coast supporters who were basically berating and abusing the umpires all day. It became quite comical in that in these peoples opinion every tackle or collision that happened in the game should contain a kick for the Eagles and when this didn't occur there was a gladatorial chorus of shouting and booing from the crowd. It was almost like the whole ground shook at the sight of these perceived injustices being inflicted by the "dirty green maggots" as the guy next to me repeated numerous times during the game.

Don't get me wrong, every teams supporters yell and scream at the umpires but I have never experienced such a cacophony of vitriol and booing that I observed and heard yesterday which appeared to be reverberating around the whole Stadium ( colloseum?).I can now understand why some umpires could find that atmosphere quite intimidating. As a neutral I thought that the umpires missed some obvious ones but they were trying to let the game flow and this is what actually happened. I thought the poor decisions balanced out and the Eagles won the free kick count 18 - 14.

Please don't flame me Eagles fans, its just an observation from someone who hasnt been to a West Coast game for quite a few years. I would be interested in your views though.

Yep, its absolutely embarrassing, the booing and general idiocy displayed is the worst in Australia.

I've been to games involving Collingwood and many other teams in Vic, who are supposed to be bad but they are nothing on that lot.

That was a sensible comment...the behaviour of some of your co-supporters is disgraceful.

Im sorry if I hurt your feelings as a closet Eagles supporter but FMD to try and draw a parallel between a handful of morons in the Mcdonald stand and 50000 Eagles supporters in a massive stadium is ridiculous and irrelevant. Tell you what, why dont you start a thread on the WAFL general thread and call it "Most moronic supporters in the WAFL" and I will debate you on it there.

The old days of the Macdonald stand were pretty lively, but that was years ago, you get a hand full of stragglers there now its not even close to what it was 30 years ago.

Pretty sure BC was just making a mere comparison mikeh between the similarity of traits between a large and small gathering of football fans with misguided views on umpiring injustices....unlike you to take the hurt soft offended stance to BC innocent yet succinct comparison mikeh...unlike you mate...usually you are the level headed SD poster....happy to acknowledge the pro's and con's of your fellow SD fans

One would think all those 50 000 WCE would disagree with your initial post vehemently mikeh, as you would about your fellow SD fans berating the umps down at Steel Blue on a Saturday......I reckon if you dilute those 50 000 WCE fans somewhat in a 100K packed MCG, it wouldn't be as obvious....no different to all those SD fans in a jam packed 10K Subi oval.....though considering SD lead the way in the popularity ratings in the WAFL, perhaps the booing of the umps would be 10 times louder and more boorish.....but hey is this anything new?.....every fan has a pair of those injustice goggles....part of the fun of going to the footy isn't and having a biased rant at the umps and the opposition.....or in an EF fan case their coach and players...LOL
