I disagree with confescating someone's mobile phone. There would be all sorts of legal implications and the government knows it. Imagine a child is left stranded at school because they missed their bus or is feeling ill and can't contact their parent because their mothers phone has been confescated by the police? Another scenario, a person misses out on a job because their phone was taken off them by the cops. The government (or police) could find themselves facing law suits.

Then there is the issue of privacy. A person's phone is a storage device containing private and sensitive information. What guarantees are there a person's private information cannot be used against them?

Don't get me wrong I'm as pissed off as anyone when I'm sitting behind cars at the lights and they turn green and we aren't moving. I've always got my hand on the horn ready to give them a blast but taking peoples phones off them is a bit too simplistic. It's like confescating a child's Xbox , that works at home but not in the adult world.
Get on your bike.

What makes me laugh is the state government through their policing force are simply ripping people off with their big stick waving approach.
There are a hundred other ways to make motoring and the roads safer. I could think of some friendly initiatives without even thinking about it.
But instead we've got the big stick being waved about, a million spy cameras everywhere and police riding silly motorbikes peering through car windows in the chance of seeing someone on a phone! And that's the best officialdom can do!!?
Obviously the big stick approach is not working, but hey - the state govt is making oodles of money from it.
All they can see is a never ending cash cow that they'll keep milking!
Has anyone bothered to ask why some people use their mobile whilst driving? Or why not simply pull over, turn the ignition off and then phone away? Plenty of spaces on the roadside to stop.
Confiscating drivers mobiles is not the answer. They are now too far prevalent in society.

This system works in South Africa, with phones being confiscated and held at the nearest cop shop and not returned till the fine has been paid in full.

The excuse given by the McGowan and his 'team' that it would be too hard to provide beggars belief.

We need to do something and this is the best idea< i have heard of.
