Is there more ACL tears these days? Probably but how many players back in the day had poorly diagnosed and treated 'serious knee' injuries which forced them into premature retirement?

What has changed since then is the diagnosis of the injury (MRIs) and treatment with ACL reconstructive surgery (traditional tendon graft or LARS) all fairly common practice these days.

The weight training I feel is a bit of a double edged sword as it should help prevent injury, allows palyers to take bigger impacts etc, but it also allows the players run faster, jump higher which over time puts more strain on the joints of the body.

Spot on TT they have been around for decades, John Todd was a classic example and many others who retired very early as there wasn't the technology regarding diagnosis and treatment.

Speaking of injuries, it is great to see an outbreak of common sense in some small sections of the education system. :)

No science to back up my thoughts, just considering the way the body moves

This has been reference in a few sports medicine publications and I think from my experience (not qualifications cos I ain't got any) it is a fair call.
