1977 finals series and GF and 1978 2nd semi and heartbreaking 1978 GF still goes down in history as one of the great grand finals.

State of Origin series on a Tuesday in the 80's were unbelievable.

1. The Beer Caravans on top of the Hill - you could actually buy Jugs of Swan Draught with glasses.
2. My 12 year old mate sleeping over at the gates the night prior to the 1979 GF ( imagine doing that now)
3. The Old Scoreboard
4. The WANFL Members Stand and the Subiaco Municipal Oval Stand.
5. St Patricks Day March and Rally in the 50's ( my folks time).

I wonder whatever happened to the old scoreboard on the outer wing was pretty good and I'm sure a club somewhere around the state could have used it?
The one behind the city end goals when the grass hill was replaced with terracing in 94/95 was another that's whereabouts are unknown?
Remember the electronic scoreboard that was situated in the city end outer forward pocket brought in about 81/82 pretty primitive nowadays but was all the rage back then.
Gee saw some changes there in the last 40 years or so.

The football commission got a sling for everything that was played of performed at Subi.Thats not the case at Burswood.Interesting to see where footy revenue is in Wa in the next decade. The AFL sides no longer pay the commission for the Subi rent.

The original main score board on the Roberts Rd Wing, was great, it was fully traditional with Race Results, I'm pretty sure the structure was mainly concrete, there was a kiosk underneath the terrace steps, for a long time it was sponsored by METTERS Stoves then Samboy Chips.

There was also a ground level scoreboard on the members sign, basic black and white job, score only.

Yep the Ping Pong Ball Lights Score Board all the rage late 80s.

Another memory where the giant MARLBORO Signs around ground.

I was at both record breakers , 52, 960 and 65,000

Tbh anyone that witnessed 1979 , knows there was well over the official figure there, attendants lost control of gates and fences.

Gtr I have no doubt the 1980 WAFL GF would also have topped 52,000 but unfortunately the 2 tier stand was under construction at the time thus resulting in a reduced capacity...was officially opened early in the 1981 season!

Another great memory of Subi was Premiership Sides walking up the steps of the Old WANFL Members Stand to receive the Premiership Cup...
