There was a great post in response to the article that suggested that it could be considered more inappropriate to redefine the terms from Batsman to Batter etc.

Man can be defined as a human being of either sex. It is not gender specific.

'er' added to the end of a noun can however become gender specific. E.g. Waiter being a male, Waitress being a female.

Isn't it recognized that there is a problem in education with a lack of male teachers to provide male role models? Is it any wonder young men are put off entering into the teaching profession these days with all this PC bullshit.
