Can sort of see your point, but from the point of view of club morale it would be great to get over them.

Bazza this is a home game for both clubs given all the Freo blokes train at freo oval probably 6 times a week compared to Souths maybe 3 times a week, absolutely no advantage for the team that finished 2nd on the ladder.

Sadly similar situations in both the WAFL and SANFL prelims with historic local teams having to come up against newbie AFL reserves teams made up almost entirely of AFL listed players. The fans in SA are just as pissed off with their alignments as we are but I read somewhere that the real SANFL clubs are pushing for significant changes to the finals qualification rules for next year. I'll stand corrected but it's something like must have played more SANFL games than AFL games, must have played something like 5 of the last 10 games in the SANFL. This idea seems reasonable and sensible and once again the WAFL should look to the SANFL for the lead on this idea. A group from the WAFL Council of presidents should engage with the similar group in SA to form a discussion panel to come up with a common set of rules that will carry more weight than just one state as it's obvious that it's the AFL pushing the local afl teams hard to get what they want at the expense of both of the historic state competitions.

I expect that the SANFL will have the balls to come up with strong rules on this but the WAFC will bend over and take it up the clacker like they always do and have some watered down piece of window dressing rule changes.

Thing is mate SANFL Clubs still hold some power in SA, A great deal more than they do here, they are not bound by a WAFC Constitution which renders them powerless , they also have some financial independence via Pokie Revenue Streams.

The WAFL handed in their power to the WAFC decades ago and our backwards 1950s style thinking on gambling in this state guarantees they will be paupers for eternity.

You can expect the occasional muted ad hoc statement from the WAFL clubs but that's about it. They wont be handing back the $100,000.00 PA cash hush money anytime soon.

In case you haven't noticed, the problem they have is,dressing their Reserves Team up,as a Genuine Peel Team.

Agree so that's why the Local COP should align with the SANFL presidents to have a common position, power in numbers. Certainly when the current WA alignment contract finishes at the end of '17 the COP should push hard for changes such as I've mentioned, so this years situation cant happen again no matter whether the 2 AFL clubs make the AFL finals or not.
