BC if we are going to use hyperbole what about the wiping out of Whyalla or $100 steaks. The other thing the super tax on mining was for the BIG MINERS - sound familiar?

your Labor buddies drafted the mining tax which at days end was useless and raised pretty much stuff all...so whats your point? there's no hyperbole in my original 42...just fact. the tax cuts would see the reduced rate of 27.5% extended from businesses with a turnover of $2m to $10m in the first year. show me any big business that turns over falling into that category. Labor couched it in terms of tax breaks for big offshore companies which was just a lie. I guess Julia started the trend and now its so easy for that side of politics to do likewise.

If we are going to talk about big fat lies: let's start with "CHILDREN OVERBOARD" lie shall we?

If you want to talk about scare campaigns shall we start with "Reds under the beds"?

As Barry Cassidy has stated Turnbull blew it between January and June. It is a pathetic attempt to deflect blame on the oppositions tactics leading up to the election. In fact it is an admission without actually saying that he failed to convince the voters his policies were good ones.

His post election speech was also pathetic and I switched off after listening to about 3 or 4 minutes of it. The Liberals are a ship wreck while Labor are united and the independents should recognize this and support a Labor government. Either that or there needs to be another election to settle it in the next 3 months if not sooner.

On the Senate, can anybody put the current numbers in this thread?

And with the Double Dissolution, the memory fades since the last one.Who serves 6 years and who doesn't?How do their Terms work now?

Graasy the Senate will probably not be known for at least a couple of weeks. It is mindboggling that we will the likes of Hanson and Hinch in the Senate.

As for the ultra-hypcritical cries of scare campaign from the Liberals it is a joke; this from the party of "reds under the beds"; "children overboard" or dare one say "weapons of mass destruction".

The Liberals got their just desserts and Malcolm Turnbull is a dead man walking.

Why is that swan? Is it because you don't like a majority of people thinking different to you? Or is it because you think you're much cleverer that the people that voted for them?

58s mindboggling because I believed that Australians would not vote for one that is an out and out racist and the other who has no respect for the laws of Australia and I am well aware of which parties were on the ALP how to vote card.

Let me preface this with me saying that I voted Liberal.
I don't believe Hanson is racist, unless of course you consider putting Australians second or third as being politically correct. Like it or not swan, she appears to very much in touch with the Australian people and their wishes. Unlike the Libs or Labour. As for Hinch, I'm not sure where he's coming from...still, after all he's a Kiwi :woohoo:

I voted numb 1 Hinch in the senate for his views on kiddie fiddlers alone! That was enough to get my vote, then it was the Aust Health Party, Animals party, Sex Party, Zenophobe and Labor numb 6 in the senate, Labor 1 in house of reps. And I agree I don't think Hanson is a racist, I think she is just protecting Australian values

SD you might like to check out the political agenda with respect to the Aust Health Party.

I have that's why I voted them 2nd in the senate behind the human headline
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

It will be a Tory government in some form from the looks of it: his lordship, has, of course, been very badly wounded. His worst enemy, in the future, will be neither Shorten nor the backbench, rather, it will be the media. They will not be satisfied until the government falls.

Hung parliament or Libs with a small majority makes no difference, as Shorten said it leaves Malcolm with no mandate so we will all sit around for 3 years and just wait for another election.
The good news is no mandate for Labor either so they can just party for 3 years over their narrow loss.
Labor and the pleb parties will block everything so government is on hold until the next election.
I sincerely hope the Australian people don't expect anything from the government as they cannot do anything. We the public have voted for a 3 year holiday for politics.
So let's just sit and wait until another election is called and maybe then we might vote in a government whoever it is to be able to do what they want to do without having to make petty deals to get anything done.

It depends whether the Tories think they can win another election. We do not know where public opinion will be in six to twelve months, particularlly if the Tories change the Prime Minister in that time.

If we finish with a hung parliament after vote counting finishes, it will be a huge slap in the face to Malcolm Turnbull. I would imagine another federal election will be taking place in 2 or three months time if the remaining close seats don't eventuate for the libs? As Turnbull clearly indicated no deals will be taking place with minority parties nor independents. Going by the latest news, Turnbull has backed himself into a bit of a corner it seems. Going to be an interesting couple of months ahead.

swan42: Abbott or Morrison -- Paul Murray did a good analysis of the 1 million lost votes. Did you see it? Looking at PM Malcolm today, he seems to be retreatting on the proposed cuts to Medicare, which, of course, would be the sensible thing to do; but, as we have discussed before, it is doubtful that he would get such a change passed the Tory party room. We shall see.
