According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics which assesses world leagues every year using a variety of indicators, the ranking at the end of 2015 was:
1. Spain
2. Italy
3. Germany
4. Argentina
5. France

The EPL was ranked 7th. It was ranked higher in previous years but the poor recent performances of English teams in European competitions has pulled them back.

Not sure where the A league was in 2015 but in 2014 it was ranked 99th behind such illustrious leagues like Zambia and Congo

In terms of viewer audience and money it is number one

Indeed the EPL could actually hold league matches in China and the Chinese would notice. It has been mooted, but probably will not happen --- rightly --- as the ticket holders would spew. The only foreign clubs whom could play in China are Royal Madrid and Barca.

Just checked, it appears as though the IFFHS rankings are more based on the performances of the clubs in the various leagues in international competitions such as Champions leagues/Europa etc etc. Barcelona and Real Madrid have dominated European competitions so that's why the Spanish league are ranked top. Nothing to do with audience or $$$ or exposure of the league which the EPL would win hands down as Bazza has pointed out. So the answer to your question is dependant on what you are looking for. As far as the actual quality of the football in the league, I think the IFFHS would provide a more accurate ranking.

that is right Miike -- the EPL is ranked third in the world for revenue behind only the Americans (baseball and so on); even the English second division is in the top fifteen for revenue. Germany ranks sixth, in spite of its bigger population and larger GDP.

On the the field, in terms, of the European club competitions, the list is as follows:

Spain
Italy
England
Germany

England would have been second up to the mid 80s but the clubs banned because of the disaster in Belgium.

Stayed up and watched the last home game and presentation last night, wow what an emotion charged few hours, opened with Andrea Bocelli standing next to Claudio in a packed stadium singing a spirit lifting number that was amazing, then the game entire Everton team and Refs and officials formed a guard of honour as the champs walked on to a massive roar and then a big win and the presentation of the trophy which was followed by huge celebrations, must of been amazing to be there.

Nice to see you back on here Daniel, hope all is well. Arsenal look like they will finish in their usual spot (4th)
