I'll stop banging on about the topic after this post because I know most people have very entrenched views on this issue and I have well and truly had my say. I just find it ironical that commentators like Bolt and Jones set themselves up as armchair experts on what is and isn't racism when they are part of a privileged group that has never experienced anything like this in their own lives. Over and out.........

Mike -- that is true, but it does not mean that they can't comment on the issue in the same way that an Aboriginal chap can comment on issues affecting the non-indigenous society. What I dislike about the debate is that, both left and right, claim that they can see into the thoughts of others, -- people are either racists or its all to do with football issues; both sides are being intellectually dishonest in the extreme.

It's amazing that I'm watching a replay of Freo v Sydney game on Fox from 2009 and Goodes is being boo'd during that game...so go figure. Is it racist or did people genuinely dislike the bloke?

It is the latter mate IMO, the racist thing has been a media blow up and he has milked the out of it, he hasn't helped the cause of better relations between Caucasian and Indigenous Australians one little bit IMO, when as Aust of the year he had pole position to try and do this.. I don't agree with any booing but this whole episode will be all people remember him for, which is a shame because he is one of the great players

Gree with this post 100% particularly the bolded bit. Rather than have a reasoned approach which would have got so many people on side with the whole racist thing.

what I find interesting in all this is how quickly the media jump on the racism bandwagon and as a result others who think they need to be PC because Goodes is indigenous. how do they explain Ballantyne, Akermanis et al...? Because Goodes thinks it was racially motivated doesn't necessarily mean it was.

You could add James Hird, Joel Selwood & Brent Harvey who didn't get a fair go this year. The Booing is a personal view.

I didn't realize that Selwood was booed a lot, can't understand why because he's a front line soldier. He deserves nothing but utter respect.

Just to throw another "red herring" in there, it is in many many people interests to NOT fix the problem, thier livelyhood and attached "industries need it to be ongoing.
