Did anyone in WA realise that the NAB cup actually started on Thursday night. If you read the West Australian or watch the channel 9 and 7 news you would be excused if you did not know as all information indicated that the NAB cup started with the Eagles and Carlton tonight.

Can anyone tell me when the Dockers will play? As the WA biased media will not tell you. The WA media shits me as they are so focused on the bloody Eagles that they do not report on anything else. I suspect that tomorrows paper will be full of how great the Eagles are beating a undermanned , no experienced Carlton. Woo pee do

If you did know that the NAB cup started last night and you watched it both those sides would have absolutely belted both the Eagles or Carlton on the standard of play tonight.

Regards the coverage via WA media, or rather the lack of, I agree wholeheartedly with you Kenny Kev
I arrived from the east approx 10 years ago and the one thing I noticed glaringly was the focus on naught but the WA teams.
I know the east give the west a raw deal many times when commentators verbal only the east with scant reference to the Wests players or at-least less in-depth knowledge (no background checks unless the player is a transfer from VIC) - case in point the FOXTEL cup coverage, but they do give space and mention to other states teams in the media
Here I am afraid its a wasteland of coverage

It really is a shame that the full picture cant be offered and when you consider the number of supporters to other AFL sides here in WA you would imagine the papers purchasing could only increase if this was altered?
as far as TV media, I care less about 7 (WP supporter) and usually watch SBS or ABC for my TV news fix

Me too Unk...I'm a born & bred in WA Bombers supporter but that aside my observation of the AFL media coverage in WA is that if its not about the Eagles then the media are only covering it under duress. I stopped religiously reading the local paper and watching local news in the mid 2000's due to this one side coverage and on the odd occasion I do have a look see it doesn't take long to observe that nothing has changed. Will concede that coverage for Freo has improved in recent times yet still the bias on WA teams alone towards everything Eagles is a major failing of the media here. There are so many more layers about our game from the entire footballing community that could be explored and especially concerning the positive aspects of our game both on and off the field yet we are reduced to whatever agenda the Eagles want their lap dog media to cover. The facts are we have a heap of born and bred WA lads playing all around the country and it would be great if our major media outlets could provide this kind of parochial coverage about these fellas on a more consistent basis as a minimum. Soccer is already threatening Australian Rules footy on a number of levels especially amongst the new generations of kids and will take over in this state and country eventually if this narrow minded media focus continues. Ironically the legacy the Eagles stranglehold and at times bully boy tactics over WA footy may leave is one of having killed WA football. They've already done a bloody good job at this in my books with all of their little worker bunnies they have feeding their daily agenda at the WAFC.

Not to mention what their druggies like Cousins , Chick , Kerr etc etc have done to the game's rep - just a filthy maggot of a club

Yes trouble here is its a bit incestous, The West, Channel 7, 6pr, all have links to eags, THEN leave thier job, to get a job at the Eags!. Once the Eags are out of the finals though they are THEN happy to plug the "wa connection" to a local player for the teams in the finals. Its just purile and so child like.

Ch7 link is a concern considering recent decisions regarding their exclusion of WP from WAFL tv coverage and the Eagles alignment with eternal arch rival EP. Clearly self serving interest applied over what's fair and better for local footy. Can't say I can recall even one sponsor's logo ever from an opposition teams jumper after watching the game for 33yrs or thereabouts so identify this as a bullshit excuse from 7.. Funnily enough the association or alignment between Ch7 and the Eagles is what prompted me to get Foxtel in the first place to get some more rounded AFL footy coverage and this WP decision just further vindicates my choice to turn 7 off.

 Spot on anchor....all these puritans....dirty stinkin AFL....hate those pricks...won't ever watch that shite...what a bunch of whackers  But they know all about the WCE & FFC
As for the media coverage - probably best for you boys if you lived in Melbourne - you'll get a very UNBIASED view the footy world and probably won't ever hear about the WA sides

I watch both forms of the game Anchor and have never said otherwise. Love my footy, appreciate all quality players and do get a lot of pleasure from viewing AFL footy however when it comes to throwing my hard earned at the game I choose to do so supporting the club I found first as a child which is SD. To me the difference is that the AFL has become purely commercially driven tv footy entertainment now which is fine whereas in attending the WAFL games I get to enjoy the footy amongst my local community in a non-sterile environment. On any given game day you can be chatting with the captain, coach, president , past champion, present player or CEO of your WAFL club or even the opposition's about all things footy related. Never had that experience from AFL and doubt I ever would so like I said my hard earned gets spent at a club that makes me feel welcome whilst providing me with my weekly footy fix.

Understand where you're coming from DW. I like watching Aussie Rules at both levels, but because of the alignment I handed in my WCE membership and put that money into EFFC. Just pisses me when all the so called "will never watch AFL footy" people post rubbish.
