I'm grateful that the Prince has been honoured. A man who has made so many laugh over the years (Albeit unintentionally) with his off the cuff one-liners.

It's no small task putting smiles on faces for more than five decades and yet he's achieved it without breaking a sweat.

On another level, you make a good point regarding the attitude of the Liberal Mps in the context of history: the liberal party has always supported knighthoods, the fact that it has just come to the attention of many liberal members and voters is a reflection on them. Equally, the attitude of the ALP leaves a lot to be desired: the party has traditionally opposed honours -- whether they be imperial or local -- because it was a left-wing party. Apparently, such a principlled position has taken a back seat to political expediency.

You clearly don't understand the system the Order of Australia is one hundred percent Ausyralian, and that's all grades AK AC AO etc...the order of Australia didn't even exist during Bob Menzies time so no idea what your going on about there...not sure what you mean by anyone getting one, I guess you mean Hawkie as well. He got one himself a AC.

Politically it was a bad move though I guess a while back I thought of who would be really deserving I thought of Prof Fiona Stanley, Michael Jeffries , Fiona Wood, Keith Payne.

Yes, old tony (like many other politicians) does like to get his own way.
Personally not interested and people need to get over it. There are far more important issues the PM and government should be concentrating on.

Spot on wag, I doubt that the people that could have received award would be overly fussed. They do the work they do for the right reasons - not for acclamation.
