Craig Hutchison and Garry Lyon would be two of the most inept people in the media. They both seem to get by on the fact they are in positions where they can easily cover their blotches without challenge.

Hutchy has been extremely vocal about Gold Coast sacking Guy McKenna even after his first year. This was an insane & totally misguided opinion by Hutchy, and he has been relentless in his tirade on McKenna. He has now really rammed it in Hutchys face & I find it laughable know all Hutchy hasn't got the courage to review his unjustified rants. Never held to account this clown.

And Garry Lyon has overseen some of the worst moves the Melbourne Football Club done over the past few years. He comes across as having all the answers, yet his judgements around that club and the decisions he had made actually sent the Demons into a further decline than before his involvement. Yet he too has had the privileged position in the media to avoid any accountability. Little suprise he gave up any involvement in Melbourne after the Mark Neeld fiasco, now with Lyons non-involvement no suprise Melbourne seem to have finally made progress.

I just thought these two massively over rated blokes should be for once held accountable . They both find it easy to throw stones from the top of the mountain , and when they get it wrong (which is often) they move their subjects on without challenge. Both very weak in my opinion.

Funnily enough Jars I find most of the knowledgeable footy media critics are from originally outside of Victoria.
Cometti (WA), Voss (QLD), Dunstall (QLD), Carey (NSW), Riccuito (SA), Richardson (Tas) all have far more footy smarts than the Vic boofhead boys club of Lyon, Newman, Hutchison, Barrett, McLaughlin, Sheahan, Whately, Robinson, McGuire et al.
The only Vics I would actually take any notice of are Ling (he will make a good coach one day) & Healy who seems to travel over to the other states every week so has a better rounded idea of what is actually happening outside of the MCG/Etihad!

I don't mind Hutchy, he's a stirrer and loves winding everyone up. He's an in your face type journo who gets straight to the point. As for Lyon, I find him one of the most Melbourne centric people in theaAFL media and a hypocrite. Likes to dip his toes into Melbourne issues but distances himself at the same time but the most annoying thing I find about him is his tough talk about players effort like he's a former coach, yet that is a job he has shyed away from because he loves his job in the media too much. Agree re Gerard Healy, he is my favourite football analyst and takes the time to have a good look at clubs outside of Victoria and apart from his constant defence of his former club, I think Mathew Lloyd is a no nonsense critic who tells it how he sees it without fear or favour.

Agree 100%. I dont think Newman even goes to the footy these days. These blokes are about one thing, themselves... as long as they keep thier head on TV, they get the money. None of em have the balls or brains to question anything outside thier "company line". At least on friday Carey had the balls to admit Majak had basically no idea on how to play AFL. Then i listen to Cometti on the cats v north game, only commentator who has an idea of how to call a game. Heaven help us when he retires. How BRUCE keeps his job astounds me, he makes so many predicted calls, MOST of which go pear shaped. Do ANY of his fellow commentators pull him up EVER on these ....NO.
Cue Leigh Matthews... goes the "company line" on Joel Selwoods head high frees (yawn), yet no comment on Lindsay Thomas, in which every match i have see him, without fail, he will go for the free first and foremost. Still its lazy commentating and easy targets for these blokes.

@UNKA. I agree! How the fuck does BRUCE keep his job? I dont know a single person that listens to him, and the amount of shit that dribbles out of his mouth, he must commentate from the toilet cubicle.
Even my missus cant stand it when he commentates, she would prefer to watch it on mute than listen to him haha. He just says some of the most stupid things. I would have heard him 3 or 4 times on Friday night say that something that a player did was "Stevie J like".... what the actualy fuck...? Stevie J like because someone did a look away handball or something that has been done for longer than SJ has been born? How is that Stevie J like?

Not sure what some of you want from commentators but Bruce Mcavaney is the best of the best and has been for 30 years.
He is the only one worth listning to. Anthony Hudson is good as well.
Brian taylor is a joke, so is Dwayne Russel. Most of them are all useless.
But Bruce and Dennis are panels in front of them all.

Agree - Healy and Commetti are far and wide the best. Lingy will get even better for a while, till he finally moves into coaching.
