It seems that if you use the Swan River for recreation purposes past Crawley then you don't to worry abt sharks.

Apparently, the shark net offer is the western suburbs so if you live in Bayswater, Maylands, Ascot etc you are safe!

I wonder if that means a lot of people going to relocate to the eastern suburbs?

Grump it looks like the Bull Sharks have had a boom time breeding season.
There catching juvenile Bull Sharks at the Guildford bridge, next to Basso oval.
The bridge next to Lilac Hill.
Also the bridge next to the woman's prison in West Swan.
There following the Black Bream into the fresh water.
They can live in fresh water for up to one year. Before they need salt water to clean there kidneys. They can recycle salt in the kidney's for up to a year.

Are you sure they were bull sharks at the Guildford Bridge GTRX? Might have been some Swans players doing some pre-season swimming

I used to do a lot of skin diving years ago, but now I have an agreement with sharks.  I won’t swim in their bath if they don’t swim in my spa!!!

Lol Mike that's a really nice part of the Swan River.Ive fished down there for years.
In the 1990's they bred all those Black Bream at that place on Freo Harbor. They where placed in the Swan River to eat all the Algie Which I think they have.
The Swan River a lot cleaner than it was 30 years ago.
I've seen smaller ones down Guildford way .Had my line ,hooks Lures disappear plenty of times Rod bend flat to the ground, then the line break.
Heard plenty of story's of Flat Head fishermen at Crawley Bay.On the sand banks a few hundred metres of shore. In hip height water having 4 footers Bull Sharks swim around them.

Was listening to an interview with the last commercial fisherman in the Swan River.
When he pulls his crab pots. The pot is either gone or has a big bite in it.
When he pulls his nets.Theres either a juvenile Bull Shark in there.Or there's a big hole in the net.Where an adult has ripped the net and eaten all the Tailor,Skippy, Herring+Black Bream.
At the rate they have been caught in the last few weeks. The numbers will reduce quiet quickly, imo.

The only talk of a net is at Bicton Baths, it's the only old style river swimming bath left, was a big one at Crawley.

Given there has only been two fatal shark attacks in the river in 100 years, the hysteria needs to take a reality check.

From what I am hearing there is a good chance the shark involved was a tiger rather than a bull.

Nothing really new about the sharks in the river, we were always told they bred at Blackwall Reach, spent a lot of time as kids swimming at Pt Walter and rowing dingys across to Freshwater Bay and back sometimes capsized, seemed to think it was OK.

I posted this as a bit of tongue in cheek commentary but it seems that the sharks in the Swan are alive and swimming.

I lived in Belmont from birth till about 7 years old and we used to swim across the swan to the racecourses, ride the horses in the river when the trainers let us and generally paid little or no attention to the wildlife in or around the river.

Hence my general mirth abt the nets. I am in no way devaluing the loss of the young womans life.
