I just found that out last night for the first time in my life. I've had my car broken into a few times and one stolen but last night I had a terrifying experience when i was woken by my doorbell ringing at 12.09am. At first I thought maybe a i had a really good night sleep for a change and it was morning. My room is pretty dark even during the day as I have a roller shutter.

But it was some maniac ringing my door bell repeatedly and banging on the door and shouting for me to open the door. Fortunately I have triple lock security doors all around the house and I had 4 security cameras installed after I moved in a few years ago. I was able to see this guy on camera and phoned the cops. My heart was racing. I reckon this guy was probably on meth. it looked to be like he had a large bottle he was carrying, maybe he was sniffing something out of that.

I thought what do i do if this guy manages to get in? We all run through that scenario right? You think baseball bat, big kitchen knife? Well I just thought about how the hell i could make an escape if he gets in so I opened the vertical blinds and had the remote ready in my hand to lift the roller shutter if he got in, then jump over the fence.

Fortunately the cops turned up within about 5 - 10 minutes of calling them and I showed them footage and they took photos and got a pretty good description out there and about an hour after they left they rang me to say they found him and got him in custody so I can sleep easy tonight, yeh right.

It wasn't obvious at first on the footage but when he went to smash the video camera's i could see a bloody tomahawk in his hand. Frightening stuff. You can never have too much security these days I can vouch for that.

Bugger me DD...that is frightening stuff and becoming all too common these days. Like you, I'm not sure how I'd react and can't say whether I'd take someone like that on or gather up the family and run for dear life. Common sense would say the latter especially when it turns out a meth crazed potential intruder was armed with a tomahawk but when confronted who knows? Thankfully it turned out ok and very pleased to hear you and yours are all safe but it also makes you realise just how important the cops are and what they deal with every day.

My wife is on a local FB page which covers the three 'burbs around us and not a day goes by when someone reports a break'in or attempt. It seems that despite the best efforts of the Plod this is going to be an on-going threat and I suspect an increasing one given drugs, the impact of covid on some groups and the usual 'I want what you have cos .....' . The FB has actually resulted in a few numpties being apprehended.

This is where being a friendly neighbour and being aware of the comings and goings in your immediate area is important.

Thanks BC and yes you really appreciate the cops when you really need them. Thankfully it happened on a Thursday night (early hours Friday). On a normal Friday night without Covid restrictions the response might not have been so swift. Lucky my security installer had his morning free and the cameras have already been replaced and decided to install another one in the garage. Video evidence is worth its weight in gold in these circumstances. By the way, hope your little mate is doing well.

This is scary stuff, DD, and well done to the coppers for quickly apprehending this mongrel.
I hope you're OK and can get some counselling if need be to deal with this frightening incident.
More than ever, we need a detox clinic that can help these addicts kick their habit before they revert to violent crime.
I may be slightly idealistic thinking this, but we live in hope.

be nice if some university boffin invents a concentrated caustic soda jet streamer apparatus that fits into door bells or security lights
sick to death of these bastards just walking into properties and terrorising decent folks or worse

Sorry to hear this happened to you DD. The shame is that he will probably do it 3 or 4 more times and hurt someone badly - psychologically or physically - before the book is thrown at him. Doubt it happens very often in Singapore and that's probably because the would be thug thinks twice about his foolery knowing the punishment won't be very nice. Look after yourself
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Shit DD, I certainly feel for you. I live in a sleepy hollow in the Swan Valley and guess I’m a bit blasé. I tend to forget that I’m nearly 70 and not as ‘nimble’ as I used to be. Reading your post brings home how vulnerable I am nowadays. Stay safe mate.
Just as an aside on policing. My wife used to smoke and would sit in the garage with the door up about half a metre. One night about 9pm 2 officers knocked on the door and said they noticed the garage door partly open and asked if everything was ok. Now THAT is community policing, great stuff.

You're right Freez but in saying that, it's not a little city any more. There's only 4 cities in the US that are bigger than Perth so I guess we should expect all the problems that go with it.
