Being abt as sharp as a blunt chisel in the tool box can someone explain to me how/why someone who usually earns $500 per weekcan get $1500 per through their employer.

There are 2 parts to this, the first being the asset rich organisation in the world asked for it workers (priests) to hand over part of it to reimburse the church for lost plate donations and then hurriedly changed it to donate. The problem there is how much do they earn and I bet it ain't even close to $1500.

Second is based on heresay, relative is a hairdresser who works one day week on the books and 2 for cash, employers is getting $1500 per for her, pays her $250 and pockets the rest.

It seems to me that the rorting is on a par that Rudd allowed to happen in the GFC and this is what we are going to be paying for in the long term future.

I don't have a problem increasing Newstart but this is money for jam!

Like all things Grump whenever the govt is handing out free cash it leaves itself open to be abused. I remember when I bought a Holden Berlina in 2009 I wanted to convert it to gas. I was pretty sure a gas conversion was always around $1500. Both state and federal governments were offering I think from memory $750 rebate each at the time if you converted to gas. Well suddenly it was around $2000 to convert to gas so the gas conversion suppliers and installers jacked up the price so we still had to pay something.

I chose the gas injection model so I ended up paying $1400 on top. I spoke to a young chic who worked in retail recently. She was out of a job due to COVID-19 and had to ask her parents for help to pay rent. I asked if she received Jobkeeper? She said no because she only worked in that job for 11 months. She fell one month short to qualify. Basically if your employer can’t be bothered or hasn’t got the cash at hand to pay you $1500 a fortnight because by the time they’ve shelled out $3000 they have to wait until a fortnight the following month to get reimbursed by the ATO.

It’s not a perfect system but I think it’s been a lifeline for most and it’s money that gets spent one way or another so it’s not only to help people keep their job, it helps create jobs.

Thx, yep the LPG thing was a bit suspect especially if you checked the RAC cost checker thing but this seems to be a bit more of blatant rort by some!

There are strict conditions in the application process mate but to answer -

Employers who do qualify to receive Jobkeeper payments must have paid each of their employees a minimum of $750.00 per week Gross wages
top up money can be paid by the employer to reach the minmum $750.00 per week Gross wage (which of course they would get back via the Jobkeeper payment)
It must also be noted that in some cases the Employer/sole trader may also be entitled to this assistance package

I know a heap of people who have cleaned up with this.

Also the Jobseeker being 1100 FN, is way more than a lot were earning, most guys doing a day or two at a pub or cafe picked up 400 or 500 bucks PW, have chucked that it, to get 550 locked in for staying home, I notice my local is struggling to get staff back.

Yes JobKeeper is $1500/fortnight and is classed as taxable income so would end up around $600 in the hand, may be more maybe less. This saved my arse as I had no work come in for over 3 months and were literally down to the coin jar. The job seeker is double the old dole so as to encourage more spending. Those who struggled along on half that but survived would now have some disposable income to spend in the economy.

Both these programmes had to be put in place very quickly so are far from perfect, but the application process, in particular for JK which is the ATO according to my accountant has been tightened up significantly and there are a new hoops to jump through added on almost a weekly basis. Neither are perfect but there are a lot of people who's arses were saved by these programmes.

Economists have been talking about Job-Keeper all week. The Government can't afford to keep it going long term. But there predicting an Economic meltdown when it ends.
Like any emergency Govt scheme it's open to fraudulent behavior. Had a similar LPG conversation problem as DD had. With a direct injection Lpg system. It's happening again with the homebuyer grant. With builders canceling existing contracts.. And the biggest rort ever the Pink Batts scheme-Kevin Rudd. The average m2 of a house worked out at 140 metres.Claiming that on 2 bed + sleepout bungalows in Vic Park-Subi-Guildford on 80m2 homes. Then a young boy got electrocuted in a ceiling space and it got closed down.

Coin jar he says. Nice being a rich toff and having a coin jar.
Me and the missus had to scrimmage under the lounge seat cushions to find some cash.
Got $2 and 28 cents in copper and hoping the bank will round it up to $2.30!!
Feed us for a week that will.

Saving checking under the car seats for when we really get desperate.
