Revenue will remain the problem for at least 7 of the 10 Wafl clubs.Attendances have dropped 20% in the last 5 years.Sponsors loss of the Colts and ressies in the next few years. On top of that there Swans on field performance which will keep fans away.Even talk of the amateur grades paying players next year.

Ah, the old five year plan. Hope it works for you. Here at Perth we have just started our 9th consecutive five year plan.

BC wrote: A huge pat on the back to SD and those who run the club to take the hard road of working your way through debt unlike others in the league. Well done and now hopefully you can now focus on on-field success.

Spot on BC unlike the Debt Dodgers up North. They’ll probably be cashed up and ready to bring in a couple of handy recruits next year after getting a clean slate from the state and federal governments. That’s the blueprint now for any WAFL clubs in financial trouble in the future, accept no responsibility and call in the administrators.
Get on your bike.

Good to see Swans debt free and with your zone and supporter base success is possible. Pickering to receive two year extension at seasons end is my information. One point in the article left me puzzled though. It stated revenue of 3.7 million in 2010 but player payments became an issue??

Royal - I noticed this dig by Townsend. He was clearly having a whack at swans for their player payments in a year they knocked off his beloved Tigers. While the verdict can be for others to decide, no one can call out swans without highlighting half a dozen of the other flags that have landed at one club in the last decade or so.

That aside, the truth is that these years of reckless spending by the Harvey led board are what landed the club in financial trouble, even with the massive revenue from the big miners. The on the book debts was only half the trouble

Good point BigRich, being an EP supporter tainted flags are not foreign to me. The 1996 Claremont flag was rigged also. EP got into trouble spending too much on recruiting in order to compete on field. Now we are rubbish but viable like Swans.
