Unfortunately MO the scary thing is none of the modern coaches were even born when football in its purest most entertaining form was played from the late 70s-80s so they probably dont see or care how damaging this unsightly "brand" they coach is to the game itself!
I remember being excited to go the footy each weekend back then in the hope I may see 20-30 goals kicked by SD and the opposition the same and maybe a bag of 10 goals from our Full Forward now we cant even kick that as a whole team in a game and have only once reached 100 points this year...it is now bloody boring and frustrating to watch football in my opinion!

it must be only the coaches that want to watch a footy game where there are no forwards inside your attacking half as supporters dont want that and surely the players must find it boring

Precisely, we have two strong forwards in Noble & Kohlmann (gee can he clunk a mark) and we refuse to have 1/1 contests
Has it dawned on these coaches that if you win more than 50% of the 1/1 contests you might score.
Let the backman go wandering forward, but please of please someone stay at home.
Our problem is we are trying to adopt a game style suited to teams with more skillful players with better aerobic capacity.

yep, Kohlmann has really improved since the start of the year, his marking is 1st class but he needs to be near the goals, not sitting on the wing outnumbered 3-1 due to the game plan.
same with Noble, we recruit tall forwards and then play footy which sees them spend half the game outside the forward 50.

That's the way of today's footy unfortunately. Play key forwards closer to goals when the ball is up at your defensive end and opposition coaches push their defenders higher up the ground to create extra numbers behind the ball....so the chances of transiting the ball into your forward 50 is greatly reduced. It's not pretty but there's not a whole lot to be done unless you move the ball very quickly which is taxing on the players and fraught with danger on the turnover.

MO if your coach employs the boring negative flood, he is out of touch with the group he has, as you and others have said, you have a very young group and a successful flood is one of the more demanding game plans, requires high levels of aerobic fittness to be able to run back then run forward if you get a turnover. Your young group have not had enough tough pre-seasons under their belts or time in the weights room so no wonder they are gassed by 3/4 time. Maybe a more traditional structure will allow the youngsters to demonstrate their skills and run the game out better

we all know its the modern game, just makes it a boring game to watch and at wafl level we have gone away from what makes WA footy great - fast long kicking footy on our big grounds.

god knows why Swans want to play the modern style of game when we dont have the cattle for it.
our skill level is pretty poor so I dont expect it too change too many results but it would at least be better to watch.

I would be very happy for them to go out this Saturday against East Fremantle, play a positional brand of football and try and kick some goals. That's what the game is about. Let the kids go out and enjoy their footy. If they get smashed then so be it.
As for SImpson, he wasn't in league or reserves last week. Not sure if he is injured.
