what would John Todd do? Talking about Todd and discipline at SD, can anyone confirm that a player took a swing at the then coach? Naturally, you don't have to name anybody. I have heard it on the WAFL grapevine over the years, but not from SD people.

Took it right up to us again - and had momentum enough to get the game back to a goal , much spirit resides at Basso looking at that stuff

Long time since I've seen a hat-trick of wins against the black & whites in a season

That was one of Swans better performances of the year. They all had a red hot crack today and they managed to get some cohesive passages of play going in the 2nd half. There was some momentary excitement mid way through the last term when Matt Rogers goal brought us to within 8 points but Souths appeared to be in preservation mode up to that stage and were able to shift gears when they needed to.

If Souths had not kicked so poorly for goal, the game would have been over at half time. Ben Saunders in particular is a strong mark but he missed far too many set shots today. A better team than Swans would certainly have made them pay and the Doggies need to tidy this aspect of their game before the finals.

It was a lovely day at Fremantle and the reserves victory put us all in the right frame of mind for a decent game. The first quarter was hard fought and Souths inaccuracy started early with 3 points on the board before Swans even got into their forward 50. Goals to Faulkner and Jetta put us in the lead but Souths finally got on the board and put their noses in front.

The second quarter was all Souths, they dominated in the midfield and should have buried Swans by half time but their return of 4 goals 8 was not reward for effort.
The same pattern continued in the 3rd but Swans started getting some good team play going with handball and some of our kicks actually started going to teammates and we nailed every opportunity that we got. Souths continued to waste their more plentiful opportunities with the result that we won the quarter by 2 points.

At 3 quarter time I thought Harding was quite upbeat in the huddle and was imploring the guys to take risks and go for it. They really responded and caught South off guard in the first half of the last term. Rudy kicked a lovely goal, he showed today just what he is capable of and it was easily the best game I have seen him play for Swans. Souths moved up a gear when threatened and their A team mids Cook, Hockey and Hams lifted when required.

For Swans, Riddoch was outstanding as mentioned, Faulkner and Riggio in the midfield as usual, I thought Jacob Burnham supported them well today. The defence led by Notte and Simpson were well drilled and pressured the Souths forwards for most of the day, some of their inaccuracy could be put down to the tackling and intensity of our backline. Banfield was also at his season best today, I also liked the way Nuich competed and once again Logue showed his class. The only downside was Ricky Cary checking out of a game injured at half time again.

Overall I walked out of the ground very encouraged by that showing and if they could play to that standard again next week we may just give Perth a run for their money.

Ricky thought he had a side strain after the collision with Pullman deep in the pocket in the 1st qtr but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a rib or 2. He wanted to play on but not sure who called it a day at half time.

Definitely some more promising signs but a huge challenge to back it up again next week! I think it will tell us a lot about how we can look forward to 2017. Let's hope for another fine warm day!

I thought Slater gave us a bit extra so I hope he holds his spot and was good to see Dylan Smith hold his own when moved down back.

I know it's only one decent performance and there were some basic mistakes but it's not all doom and gloom! I saw enough today to think we can turn it around quite quickly.

Yes I agree it was a far better performance yesterday than most of the season. Lets not forget it was 35 scoring shots to 15 tho. We still have a lot of improvement to make in a lot of areas outlined last week. Good win by the Reserves yesterday with Colts aged players in Clarke, Fullgrabbe, Cipro, Armstrong, Yorkshire & especially Stewart who is still only a 16yo and stepped up to his first game in Senior footy with ease.

reasonable performance apart from the 2nd qtr which was pathetic.
finally in the 2nd half we showed that we can move the ball from one end to the other and score goals instead of mucking around with it in the backline or mid-field.
Riggs and Faulkner battled really well and Rudy and Banfield really gave us a lot of impact across half forward, we scored our goals very easily when we went inside 50.
turnovers a killer though, skill level from some players is still poor.
9 and 21 very good for South.
Ellard and Crowley will be important next year but we need a key forward.

if you're looking for a quality midfielder you couldn't go past bogensperger at Subi...he's killing it in the ressies but can't get a run in the league...plus he'd just have to drop the sperger part from his name to fit right in... ;-)

pointless us recruiting from Subi as we have to pay a transfer fee and also find him a car if he is any good.

Wasn't it great to see that the umpires look like they have finally got the message and stopped paying those ridiculous, infuriating "high tackle" free kicks to serial duckers Schloithe & Hams which were becoming a blight on the game albeit 5 years of it but better late than never I suppose!
