I am sure that the club has done this so that Harding will not be looking over his shoulder for the rest of the year. By any judgement, it has been a season from hell for Swans, we have lost players to injuries, the AFL and personal issues. I can't see us winning too many more games to be honest and we are pretty much a shoe in for the wooden spoon.
If the club had waited till the end of the year to renew Greg, I think his confidence would have been impacted with more of the horrible results of the nature of Saturdays flogging at the hands of East Perth, which inevitably will happen when you are playing kids. That loss of confidence may also have seeped into the player group with everyone wondering if the coach was a dead man walking. Now there is certainty that now a foundation can be laid for a significant improvement in 2017.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, supporters have just got to hang in there and have faith in what the club are doing. I have been critical of some of the decisions that Harding and his match committee have made this year and I think everyone will be watching closely because ultimately his chances of an extension beyond 2017 will depend on some of the actions that he takes this year and during the off season.
