Some of us are fully aware of that Singha if you read our constructive posts on our game forums but unfortunately a few trolls from certain other nameless clubs have infiltrated those (read the SD vs Peel thread as an example) and have been the ones making the big noise statements regarding our current position ..believe it or not sight unseen as well!

Still a long way to go as we made a lot of mistakes again today but eliminating some of those get some players back from injury and we are not as far off the pace as some on here would believe after what has been the worst start to the season imaginable.
Interestingly those who have been bagging the coach, club, players etc were not sighted at the game today pity as they missed first gamers Watson & Hackett who were both good as was Alby & Greaser who also came in to the side ...so much for no depth!

It was a different team this afternoon BH, once they started moving the ball around and today there were some targets in the forward line. I think the 3rd quarter was the real catalyst as they were getting their hands on the ball and depriving Claremont of scoring chances, you could just sense the belief was growing. Just need to savour this win though because there is a reality train heading down the Midland line next Sunday and we will have to improve another 50% just to compete with Subiaco. Lets see if they can carry that confidence into next week.

Very true Mike I know hindsight is a wonderful thing at times but if Harding could go back to Round 1 again I bet he would like to have a similar positional set up to what we had in the 2nd half yesterday. It was good to see even when Claremont kicked the first goal of the last qtr we didn't drop our heads and we kept coming obviously we got a sniff of victory and as can happen when you have had a tough run of losses you put your foot on the oppositions throat and don't let it up til that final siren sounds.
On another note it is about time the umpiring department made a stand about these ridiculous "around the neck free kicks". Over the last few years they have become an utter blight on the game and the same old ones who keep shrugging their bodies and lifting the tacklers arm up whilst throwing their heads back at the same time should be named and shamed- Hams, Schloithe, ROB, BOB, Richardson, Bradshaw, Neates, Murphy. If the umpires stopped paying these b grade Bollywood actors these free kicks that are not there like the old ducking the head rule maybe these actors would stop trying on that soft crap!

Yep mate its all in the hands of the umps, but they continually fall for it! Its a disgrace and agree with everything you said. The paying public deserve much better than that

Some more reflections on yesterdays game:

First quarter: Swans carried their lack of confidence from the last few weeks into the start of this one. Claremont were completely in charge of the midfield and when on occasions when we got the ball, we turned it over regularly back to them , thus putting pressure on our already over stretched defence. Luckily for us, Claremont were really sloppy with their finishing in this first term. If they had kicked 8 – 4 instead of 4-8 there would have been no way back for us. Ironically the only score we got was a goal by Alby Dean from a direct turnover by the Tigers. I think that was the best league game I have see Alby play and he should be a regular in the team from now on. I also had the feeling that Claremont were not too concerned about their inaccuracy in the first term as they must have figured they were going to pummel us as Peel had last week. The scoreboard though was slightly misleading as the Tigers had a 2 -3 goal breeze in this period.

2nd Quarter: After Gregs expletive laden Quarter time address, the boys came out with a different mindset and started chipping away at the deficit. Claremont scored an early goal as well but Tony Notte started the fightback with a good mark and goal. I was also impressed with the poise shown by Brayden Hackett who kicked a goal from a set shot . There was a definite lift around the ground and some support was there for Aaron Elari who was everywhere as usual even though Swans were still making skill errors. The endeavour was there though and the work rate had lifted dramatically. I was annoyed at half time because we gave up two cheap goals to the Tigers in red time after getting back within 5 points. Ricky Cary got one of them back before the break but at the time I thought that lapse of concentration would be costly.

3rd quarter: This is where we set up the victory. Claremont were kicking with the breeze, even though it had moderated slightly and they must have expected that they would be able to break away to a 5 or 6 goal lead at 3 quarter time. Swans though hung on tenaciously using a handball and run game into the wind. It started to work for them and I could feel the belief growing in the team. The Tigers again assisted with poor kicking for goal 2 goals 6 this time . The prime offender was Ian Richardson who has always had a distinctive ball twirling routine of lining up but his accuracy now seems to have deserted him. I was very happy with a 10 point deficit at 3 quarter time because I felt that some of the Claremont mids were looking a bit tired by that stage.

4th quarter: The Tigers dominated the first part of the last but they couldn’t get the result on the board with just 1 goal 2 for the quarter. In contrast Swans were now becoming more precise in their ball movement when they got the ball and they made the most of their inside 50’s. The long bomb goals to Kirk Ugle and Freddie Clutterbuck were fantastic and swung the game in our favour. The scores were level for what seemed like an eternity until Ricky took the decisive mark at the 26 minute mark. Once he had kicked the goal I was pretty confident that we would hang on because many of the Claremont guys looked dead on their feet. Having said that there were a few nervous moments before the siren!

Great to see guys like Riggio, Blight, Jukes, Howard and Rogers lift their games and be part of the fantastic team effort. Also well done to young Watson who took a bit of time to get used to the pace of the game but looks like a great long term prospect

considering I was agreeing with what BH had to say grassroots, that's a bit rough to suggest BH's comments were inept and superfluous.....thought he was spot on about those players and their ducking antics.....quite surprised you think sling tackling is acceptable though?....I wonder why that is?.......

Great to read your spiel Mikeh, sounds like Cl run came to a standstill heading into the final quarter, I guess their inaccuracy in the first came back to bite them in the arse big time.....no game is over until the fat lady stops singing I guess.....though that line is a bit cliche and superfluous at times me thinks.....what does it actually mean?....how many fat ladies actually do you see singing in public these days?.....kudos to SD for the win....

I was surprised how wasteful Claremont were. Even guys like Bradshaw who has killed us in the past was struggling to kick straight.
The fat lady singing reference originated from a rather long boring opera I think.

Some of the stats for this game are quite interesting.
Claremont had their hands on the ball far more than Swans. Claremonts 54% to Swans 45.7%. Out of the 4 league matches, Swans has the lowest ball possessions Ins 50M at 35. The average for the league this week being 49. Swans first three matches for 2016 shows a very low offence rate. They cranked it up to just over 27% in this match, which was the highest offence rate of the 4 league games for this week.
Just goes to show, a team does not need a million ball possessions to win a footy match. Use the ball well and direct will do the job equally.

Yes all the stats for the game were dominated by Claremont and they indicated that the Tigers should have won by 5 or 6 goals but many of their possessions were short kicks across the ground and once they got the ball into the forward 50 they were woefully inaccurate. Swans were far better structured than previous weeks and they moved the ball more quickly and efficiently than they did against South and Peel. Amazing what a bit of self belief can do to a team.
