It was gonna be lottery mikeh to which player was gonna get injured in a game like this......a pneumothorax requires a chest drain for a day or two to reinflate the lung, flying would be a no no for a month atleast mate.....though it depends on the severity of the pneumothorax I guess.....too sore to drive that distance I reckon, also if he got into breathing troubles the Nullabor is not the place to be .....he could easily be in SA for a week atleast one would think.....as for playing 4 weeks minimum surely......

watched a bit of the game on the NEAFL streaming, the boys up back hassled their opponents 24/7 during the game...didn't realise Ames was that quick over 10 metres....hopefully the fella is back on the track pretty soon.

Cheers mate, don't want to take any risks with that sort of thing. Do you reckon the Indian Pacific would be the best option to get him home? That would be 3 nights and he could be under medical supervision. Lets hope its not too severe.....

Not only quick over 10m freeze (well actually more than 10 as he was a very good athlete at Trinity) but usually more often than not he outmarks the Forwards or gets in a spoil with his gadget arms. His ability, voice & leadership will be sorely missed on the park for us but looking on the bright side it offers up an opportunity to another youngster to step up in defence in his absence!

I'd imagine Latch would step up from 3rd tall. Perhaps Kirkup would replace him as a medium defender or we'll reshuffle and bring someone like Riddoch in for more forward power.

I wonder if Tony Notte might spend a bit more time in defence in Tallans absence and as you said bring in Rudy Riddoch to provide more forward options. The only issue with that of course is that Notte provides ruck back up for Blakely. Simmo and Graham Jetta will have to marshall the defence as the senior players there and I think Alex Howard is ready to take on a bit more responsibility, I have been really impressed with him this year. Whichever way you look at it though, Swans won't be as competitive on the park with Tallan not there. He is so important to this young team. Lets hope he can recover within a month or so and get back out there.

I wouldn't send Notte back, he's too vital in the ruck and providing an option across HF and the wings.

With Latch, Howard, G Jetta, B Jetta, Simpson, Blight, Ugle, Casserly and Grescos in the side, we already run pretty deep in defenders even if the likes of Cass and Blight are playing further up the ground. I'd maybe look to pushing Blight and/or Cass back more as cover.

Notte could still drop back at times to steady the ship if need be as he has over the years.

Agree with you on Howie, he's been terrific this year and he's become super dependable.

Coming home the long way.

Ames is facing a five-day journey to get home followed by a likely month on the sidelines, according to the news report.

Has been unable to fly back to Perth for medical reasons after suffering a partially collapsed lung and broken ribs in a nasty collision with Neafl's forward Cleve Hughes during last Saturday's 85-point State game victory in Blacktown.

It means Ames is resorting to a milk run route via Melbourne and Adelaide that will involve 62 hours journey time on either a bus or train to reach Perth, because the Indian Pacific out of Sydney was fully booked. Swans are bracing themselves to be without their skipper for up to six weeks.
