BH is correct re Hutton playing a fair bit as a defender - today I watched SD v WP game at Leederville in 1985 and he played FB that day with big Sidey up front

Great work mate! Love it..yeh I have heaps of him (Hutton) on DVD from that time playing at both ends :)

I think he must be a nightmare for opposition coaches to match up on because he can play tall or small, he has a good turn of pace and can read the play very well. I have seen him take some brilliant marks both overhead and chest in contested situations. His kicking style is accurate, overall he has kicked twice as many goals as points and he is a good team player as well. There is also a bit of a combative attitude about Tim which I reckon would rev up some of his quieter team mates to Swans advantage.

Hope he can go on for a few years yet and add another premiership to his CV!

Is the fittest key forward going around and is an expert at inducing a free kick or 50m penalty too, a cunning and clever player for sure!

Still a star in my books, stats don't always tell the full story. In 84 he was awesome and being that it was the first year I really watched footy, up until then only listening on radio in a country town, I was as pure a fan as one could possibly be, a starstruck kid in awe....as always a pleasure reminiscing mate :)

DW no one was a bigger Brent Hutton fan than I was mate wearing my No.10 Swans footy jumper to Primary School every chance i got ..my earliest memories of him were in 1981 as the 16/17yo blond understudy to Simon Beasley playing Full Forward in our Reserves team taking absolute screamers every week & we all waited with anticipation for him to come into the League team in 82 when Beasley went to Footscray. His 84 season was fantastic considering he was only 19/20yo & his high leaping vice like marking will stick in my mind til the day I die. An all time Swannies favourite! :)

Did he play in the 1990 premiership team BH? I was overseas that year so missed that celebration!! I remember him being an integral part of the 84 premiership

Yeah mike he did play in our 1990 Premiership team. He actually got concussed in the Preliminary Final but Toddy took the risk with him in the GF meaning Edmonds & Bazzo were emergencies who didnt play ..he actually wore No.2 in that game as a mark of respect to our Courageous Captain Brad Shine who was unable to play with a bad knee injury that forced his retirement.
Hutts himself suffered badly from concussions late in his career that he ended up wearing a helmet like his old side kick Donny 'Horse' Holmes & a shocking one in Round 1 1992 when cleaned up by a dirty EF player  was to finally convince him to hang up the boots! :(

I have a memory of him just about standing on someones head at Subiaco one day to pull in a screamer (they used to play home and away games at Subiaco in 1984). Can't remember who Swans were playing that day, but it was great to see him fly

Would have been against Claremont mate that day he kicked 11 goals on Michael O'Connell etc & was taking screamers galore ..a day I have never forgotten!!

Could have been any of the other 7 teams in the comp then mikeh...he did it week in week out during the 84 season...described him in a previous thread as a cross between Capper & Dunstall in the air. Very few footballers have been as exciting as him at his best purely from a wow point of view. I still say footy was better when the full forwards owned the park and the high mark was king.
