Probably nicked that one but it was a brilliant fightback by the boys when they honestly looked down and out at half time. Only 3 goals in the first half and Perth were all over us. The move of Jones into the forward line was a master stroke and gave us a target we had lacked in the first half. Perth eventually put a better match up on him but he had done the damage by that stage. Another guy who stood up to be counted was Ottoviano with 22 disposals and 2 crucial goals at vital stages in the last quarter. The midfield guys lifted in the absence of Clarke and Pina with Fisher, Watson and Riley particularly prominent. Seb Bright was also noticeable throughout the evening.

I don't normally comment on umpiring but I thought the officiating tonight was very poor and some decisions were made which were puzzling and without doubt affected the momentum in the game. It was almost like the umpires were trying to be noticed and make their mark on the game.

Anyway  we will take the 4 points which were desperately needed after a couple of close losses. Finally we win a tight game BH!

Mike the rule is the defender cant deliberately force the ball through past the length of the goal square and he did from 25m back from the goal line. It was a free kick to the letter of the law!

After an average first qtr, woeful 2nd qtr, and ordinary first 15 minutes of the 3rd qtr we somehow fought back the initiative, helped by some undisciplined tactics from Perth who seemed intent on trying to play bully boy tactics against a young Swans line up, and with the move of Jones up forward at that point we finally had a target to kick too deep. If Jones had of kicked straight he could have ended up with 7 goals in that qtr and a half forward instead of 3.3 and 1 out on the full but alas he was astray, but good hands nonetheless.
Having said that though if Perth had of kicked straight in the first 2 and half quarters the game would have been over as I dont think we would have come back from more than the 5 goals deficit we did.
Also thought Greggy's pressure up forward, pace and strength in a contest were critical in the win and its good to have him back after missing Rd1.
Well done to Colts boys from last year in the Hewett brothers & Ehlers on their first League win.

I think I agree with your umpire summation Mike rather than BH’s defence of that woeful decision.
regardless of the result you’re right about the umpires wanting to be the centre of attention. It didn’t help the game as a spectacle. Perth are in for another poor season. Swans were almost gone halfway through the third but fought their way back and we couldn’t go with them.

To give you some idea of the difficulties at present I was told we only had 35 of our normal squad of 70 odd players available on the training track this week.

Wow that's a great win and fightback by Swans.Like West Coast a club ravaged by COVID-19.
Didn't look good at halftime.Perth late in the first qtr and in the second where on top.Winning around the centre of the ground..
Swans showed a lot of character in the second half. And found a way to win in a tough game of footy.
Great venue for an Autumn game of twilight footy.Lathlain must of rocked in Perth heyday eras in the 1960's + 70's, always been a fantastic Wafl venue

Thats a real credit to everyone concerned that they managed to overcome that situation and translate it into a gutsy win. COVID is really making the season a bit of a lottery as we can see from Subiaco's current plight.
On another matter, I'm wondering if Jesse Palmer is carrying a bit of an injury or just out of form. He was such a good player last year but has had no impact in any of the 3 games so far.

Mike he might have that Long COVID ailment.Health specialist are still trying to work out why athletes, get this. And why it hangs around for months.
Eagles look like there running around with lead weights on there ancles..And something the Wildcats have had all season.

You may be right GTRX. Jesse just hasn't had the same impact he was having on games last year. Hopefully he can get going against Claremont this week as they will need all hands on deck against the Tigers.

Well done on the win. Some aspects that I was pleased with was the form of Jones once moved to the forward line - isolated one on one he was outstanding - reminiscent of last year in the game against Perth at Lathlain when he went forward when injured and still kicked a few. He is very good defender, but I wonder if his value is as a forward. Second was the bullocking work done by Turner in the middle to allow Fisher some clear air at bounce downs. While it negated Turner's performance - but he was good at getting the football in the second half - Fisher played well and his disposal skills make a difference. Third was that many young men have been provided the opportunity to play league and grasped it. Hewitt (2) and Ehlers have contributed well, while Greg O and Bright - the later after an average game last week - were good all night.
