Sad to hear that Cory has had to hang up his boots due to concussion issues, a quality player the WAFL cant afford to lose and a huge blow for the Swannies. Always enjoyed watching him play.

Yes quality player, gee how unlucky. Went from being on the radar to be picked up in the mid season draft last year by Gold Coast from memory to getting this concussion and missing the rest of the season and now being forced to retire.

Correct me if I’m wrong I seem to recall reading somewhere Cory is a doctor? He’s obviously got a big future there if that’s that’s true but tough all the same to be forced to retire early. Seems to be happening a lot lately.

I’m curious to see the logic behind former No 2 draft pick Paddy McCartin’s comeback with Sydney after previously announcing his retirement due to multiple concussions. Obviously there is the sentimental incentive to play with his younger brother at Sydney but it must have raised eyebrows of the games top doctors.

The AFL will come under the microscope if he suffers further concussions and long term damage which he’s probably already going to suffer long term.

Disappointing but probably not entirely unexpected given that he sat out the end of last season. Coreys quality of life is far more important than footy and he has given Swans excellent service over the years. Hopefully Matthew Germs takes another step this year after a very promising start to his career.

Your right Mike, Germs has huge potential, still a bit raw but a very good replacement for Gault.

Sad news as Corey has been a wonderful servant at Swans since coming back from Collingwood including a couple of Swan Medals and playing for WA.
Hopefully he is not lost to the club into the future.

What a blow for Swans.Like Notte,Riggio,Aimes ,Davis always in Swans best every week. The best of this generation.
Corey was of AFL standard in 2020,19+18+17.Probably as a forward. But overlooked with his medical condition.
All the best to Corey and thanks for the great footy.

Sad to see him go but wish him all the best for the future. He tore Perth a new one on a couple of occasions, only for me to claim at the end of the game that it would be nice to have a player like him running around at Lathlain.

Nathan Blackly a Doc DD, Conner's brother from Freo. Top bloke and another Ruck at Swans. I haven't heard Cory was.

Concussion bad -- But may be being over hyped - like everything atm. By this I mean you only have to look at how many hits on the head boxers/MMA guys get throughout their career. A lot you would think.

As far as I know only a small proportion end up with Dementia.

DG - I will look out to avoid your posts in the Future.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!
