Disappointing drop off by the Warriors after that 119 opening stand. Lost 5 - 64 from there. Bancroft certainly did his test prospects no harm by batting through the day for 73, lets hope he can covert that to 100+ tomorrow.

Other test aspirants had mixed days
Renshaw 29
Burns 60 and
Labuschagne 59 out of 4 - 308 by Queensland
Siddle 0-56 and Tremain 1 - 70 for the Vics
Travis Head 50 for SA ( although he is not in doubt for the ashes tour)
Jackson Bird 4 -53 to keep him in the frame

Mike I am not sure if you saw Cartwright's dismissal but it was utterly disgraceful, playing a premeditated reverse sweep to SOK that was pitched miles outside his leg stump in his normal batting position, as you can imagine it went straight up in the air and was caught by bat pad.
Regardless of being interim Captain the bloke should be dropped for the rest of the year for that absolute rubbish!

Hard to Imagine that Cartwright was in the test team a few years ago. If Mitch Marsh is fit for the next game, Cartwright would seem to be the obvious one to go out. On a positive note, good to see Sam Whiteman making a 50, I have always rated him as a batsman.

Cam Bancroft has definitely put his hand up here.....though I see Harris is getting a few v the Bulls...Matty Wade also scored a few at 4....tho really needs a big score or two to sway JL I reckon...lots of prospective batters scoring runs....but reckon a big score or two will drag a few into JL ashes squad.

Great weekend for batsmen, Patterson trumped Bancrofts century, to be fair though they are not competing for the same spot. You would figure that WA need an encore performance from Cam tomorrow to save the NSW game. The rest of the Warriors batting line up looks very flimsy, you would hope that the captain will not try a premediated reverse sweep tomorrow given the situation.
In other games we saw Burns, Harris, Head and Wade scoring runs and we saw the debut of a 27 year old for Tasmania, Charlie Wakim, who scored a lazy 160! Must think the game is a doddle.

Looks like the Cam Bancroft one man show had come to an end.....gonna be interesting over the next few months with Bancroft, Harris, Burns all fighting for the other openers berth...could be interesting also if Renshaw scores big over in the UK on his county stint

Lets get this in perspective. Bancroft scored 224 out of the 426 runs scored by WA in this match. If you take out Whitemans 64 on the first day, the rest of the batting scored 138 runs over the 2 innings. From the point of being 0 -119 in their first innings, WA lost 20 wickets for 307 whilst NSW scored 8 - 477 on the same pitch. This was not just an average innings defeat, it was a complete and utter surrender by this team. Surely this would have to be the rock bottom? I don't think it is any excuse to point to the "inexperience"of the team. There was absolutely no fight and selectors cannot tolerate these sorts of performances any more. Cartwrights two dismissals in this game were embarrassing to say the least and continuing to select him while he is so bereft of form and confidence is doing him and WA a disservice.

No excuses for mine Mike yes we were under-strength but lets face it NSW also were missing their first choice bowling line up- Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins & Lyon plus Smith & Warner etc.
If WA are going to be successful ever again in the Sheffield Shield then major changes are needed asap starting at the top for mine!

I just had another look at Cartwrights 2nd innings dismissal and it was unlucky as it spooned up off the close fielders helmet. When you are out of form these things happen.
