Would be interesting to find out what the Melville option is though.

I was wondering the same thing. My first thought was Tompkins Park but I reckon that would be too difficult.

Maybe it's Melville Reserve. It has the right kind of Amphitheatre shape already with some sloped banks. Would be easier to upgrade.

Someone has mentioned Murdoch grounds, but I think the Warriors have that oval for junior development matches and 2nd XI games.

Melville Reserve I would have thought is too small as many amo posters have said it is a 'postage stamp' oval.

The 130 that turned up to the council meeting apparently were an older crowd who were very vocal in their opinion not to redevelop. To me development is a step in the right direction and will benefit the wider community. Cafes, Gym, Pool, Retirement Village etc is a positive for whole community. It's a pity that most old folk are so set in their ways.

Yeah it's the WACA partnership with Murdoch which gave me some hope that they might also be open to a similar arrangement with East Fremantle but I didn't consider that all the spare land had already been taken by the WACA. So if that's the case, it's a no go I guess.

Shame, because I can see this disagreement with the council/residents dragging on for years and years.

At the very least, if I was EFFC, I would be offering free entry from now on to all home games for East Fremantle Council residents - if for nothing else but a PR exercise - and maybe, hopefully a few hundred extra people through the gates each week.

I think I might have misunderstood the use of the word Melville in this case.

Upon relfection they mean moving from the Town of East Fremantle to the City of Melville which takes in the following suburbs.

City of Melville
Alfred Cove
Applecross
Ardross
Attadale
Bateman
Bicton
Booragoon
Brentwood
Bull Creek
Kardinya
Leeming (* City of Canning, City of Cockburn)
Melville
Mount Pleasant
Murdoch
Myaree
Palmyra
Willagee
Willetton (* City of Canning)
Winthrop

I bet most of these older folk haven't changed their own houses carpet/wallpaper decor since the 50's....thus can understand their reluctance to any of the above changes. The thing which get's me with the older generation, is they command respect from all n sundry, yet are unprepared to give it in return. If these people were true community folk then they should be thinking of what's best for the whole community, not just their own 4 walls and garden.....I reckon even if the local council gave these people reduced rates, free entry etc they would still dig their heels in and whinge...

But the council doesn't plan to sell off the reserve - only small portions of it which are on the outer perimetre and in a state of disrepair.

I don't really understand what the residents are banging on about.

My guess is that those probably in attendance were from the Bowls and Croquet Clubs ??? Worried that they may get stuffed around by the re-development ???

I think if they address those clubs first they may get some action ???
Surely the residents across the roads from Shark Park would realise that any new development would probably improve not de-value their properties ???
