Not defending WCER for one minute but the situation is that the WC AFL team is ravaged by covid and injuries and dont have enough fit/well players to field a team. Subi and Claremont were both a bee dick away from the same situation a couple of weeks ago with 20+ players unavailable, but just managed to cobbled together teams, Joondy, and Swans in particular have been hit hard  by covid, so it can happen to any team, at any time, be they AFL reserves, aligned or real WAFL teams. Fingers crossed they can get a team together to play on the state game bye weekend.

Why is everyone upset with West Coast..they didn't create this problem with covid.clubs didn't want to give them too many resources with recruiting to stop them being too strong.the question is why we started the year so late knowing we are still affected by covid and didn't plan enough split fixtures just in case this would happen. At the moment the game could be played next week or later in the year.

I think COVID has highlighted the inequities and lack of integrity of the WAFL competition that have existed ever since the AFL clubs have started messing around with a system that was actually working OK. The issue is that on any given week, the AFL reverses teams could either field teams stacked with their players or in other weeks a depleted combination due to some injury crisis or holding out players due to fitness tests etc. The result of this for a legitimate WAFL club is that they could be playing a very strong team like East Freo had against Peel on Good Friday or a makeshift team of fill ins like what they would have been facing this Saturday.  So teams that have the good fortune to play a weak Peel or Eagles will benefit with an easy 4 points and a percentage boost but the opposite will apply if you get them with a lot of AFL players. It just hopelessly skews the competition and ultimately in a close race for the finals, this could be critical in so far as who makes it.
Like so many other things in the world at the moment which are much more serious than footy, COVID has just exacerbated the problem.

Spot on, Mike. I understand that Covid has impacted a number of clubs. However, I understand that the Eagles and Peel have a rule whereby they must have a minimum of 3 AFL players. So it's not that they can't put 22 players on the field, they can't put the players they want. This is what comes of allowing the Eagles in, without a reserves or colts team, and with special rules tailored to meet their needs.

I see now the game is rescheduled for next weekend- where EF won't have their State players available. And EF is happy for it to go ahead- crazy- be egg on the face on everyone at EF if they drop the game

Spot on Ted and mikeh....WCE ego, stubbornness and ignorance is the underlying cause here.....who in hell goes into a season with a stand alone team, knowing full well injuries will always play some part in  a sides success/failures over a 20 + season....without having COVID in the mix as well.

Yeah I get player development/continuity is important, but more important then a comps integrity?...I also get WCE have no control over iinjuries and COVID....but they did have control about taking their chances and rolling the dice with their WAFL team in 2022....and decided what ever happens,  WCE will do as they please....as the WAFL will just have to deal with it.

Yes, I'd be nice and dirty if I was an East Freo supporter and you lot got rolled next week. It's bad enough the pricks take your better mature age players pre-season but then to reschedule the game when your state guys aren't available is really rubbing salt in the wounds. In saying that, I'm still not sure how they can put a team together in the space of a week anyway when they've had to borrow 4 from the WAFL for this weeks game against Brisbane. Watch this space I guess.

i agree with the fact that maybe west coast having a stand alone team this year  might not have been a good idea.We don't know when we will come out of this epedemic. yet West Coast  wanted a stand alone team to develop players in their structures and be competitive this year in the Wafl.Neither of these things have happened.I think their wafl top up players last year is better then what they have ended up with now.All the Wafl clubs who play them in the first part of the season must win and bank percentage for i fear if they get a good side on the park some team in the latter part of the season  will feel agrieved if they miss out on the finals,
