Yep, they got rid of the shining light of East Fremantle. They got rid of the wrong sporting arena.

Thank fark WCE have moved into the Lathlain precinct then boys....added a bit of glam and success to the place....been a dead and desolate place for many a decade prior till then. Do miss the Richmond Raceway trots though, had many a good evening there losing my money back in the day.

Was a bloody crying shame when Richmond Raceway closed back in the 90s, was always a good night at the Port after backing a few winners...occasionally!!!

Lucky you BH....occasionally was far better then hardly ever when I frequented the place...old Les Poyser was a favourite reinsman of mine back in the day...

Yes he was a wily old reinsman was Les Freeze.
A few other ripper drivers from those Richmond Raceway (and GP) days were Jim Schrader, Fred Kersley, Trevor Warwick, Phil Coulson, Lyle Lindau, Max Johnson, Ross Sweetman and many others.
I see Chris Lewis is still going strong now.

Yes I think you are right Freeze, Les did pilot the ol champ when Phil was on the odd occasion suspended.
Gee he was tough Pure Steel he could stay longer than your mother in law.
Many great horses raced in WA during that period that ran at both Richmond Raceway & Gloucester Park- Steelo, Satinover, Royal Force, San Simeon, Preux Chevalier, Village Kid, Morgan James just to name a few.
