I did. It reverts back to the previous system.

That will never happen because that is what started the whole mess in the first place. West Coast want ALL their players at one Club.

And before you say West Coast will have to do as the WAFC want, remember that they and Fremantle both give a lot of money to the WAFL

Neither the Fremantle nor the Eagles own the AFL licence. If the WAFC was serious in its protestations that they are interested in the long term viability of the WAFL both of the WA domiciled clubs would be required to pay a lot more than what they currently do.

I will repeat once again that the WAFC has no power to put a 10th team into the WAFL. That power lies completely with the WAFL clubs. So if they vote against a 10th team in the WAFL it doesn't happen. Nothing could be simpler.

West Coast Eagles’ WAFL alignment with East Perth to stay until at least 2021

East Perth will remain aligned with West Coast for at least the next three years after Royals president Bronte Howson confirmed there was no prospect of the controversial deal being dissolved before 2021.

Claiming that the alignment was working well apart from the vexed issue of player management, Howson said the lack of certainty over the WAFL’s future funding model would prevent the Royals reverting to a stand-alone club.

Howson, who was re-elected unopposed for a 20th consecutive season as president, told the East Perth annual general meeting yesterday the current alignment deal still had two years to run. And East Perth would have to give notice to the WA Football Commission by the end of this month if they wanted to quit the alignment before 2020.

“We are currently locked in for 2018 and 2019 and if we don’t come back to the commission by February 28 then we are in for 2020 as well,” Howson said.

“That won’t happen by the end of February.”

East Perth reported a profit of $163,960 for last year — the best of any WAFL club — and have $1.2 million cash. They are also debt-free.

But Howson told members the club could not make a decision to end the relationship with West Coast until there was certainty from the commission on future funding arrangements.

“We can’t make any decision yet to call it quits because we don’t know how the funding model will work in the future,” he said. “We need to work out how we would make the $2 million a year we would need to go it alone.

“Money is going to come backwards, not go forwards, in the years to come but we are not going to go into debt and burn the $1 million that we have.”

Howson said the likely redevelopment of Leederville Oval within the next five years meant East Perth would remain committed to their ground-sharing arrangement with Subiaco.

The Royals looked at shifting to a new facility at Wellington Square, and examined potential moves to the WACA Ground and Subiaco Oval, but believed Leederville Oval offered the best future. The two WAFL clubs and the City of Vincent were developing a plan for Leederville Oval that Howson said could see the club in a new facility by 2023.

Coach Luke Webster told members that the young West Coast players had to complete a project this month on the history and impact of East Perth as part of his bid to forge a closer alliance between the AFL and WAFL playing groups.

“Unity will be a big issue for us this year,” Webster said.

East Perth are negotiating with West Coast to match the finals restriction by fielding a maximum 12 Eagles in any league game.

This seemed pretty definitive that they were going to stay in the alignment till 2021. Subsequently they missed the February 28 deadline which we were told would lock them in till 2021
The obvious question is what has changed since February and how come they can now lodge a notice of termination when the above article stated that they had missed the boat?

The last thing I would do is run out and recruit. Let the players who have stuck it out have a go first, yep we will lose but give the development process have a chance!

If I read the worst correctly Nisbett has said that both the EPFC and Weagles see it finishing at seasons end and that the WCE will have its own stand alone team, no more byes except for colts and ressies!

It is a mutual decision.If one of the teams didn't want it to happen sooner it would have to go to 2021.

Not sure how many ex EP boys are playing ammos.I would suspect some minor recruiting may be needed as I think we would be light on in some areas.i think we could have a reasonable backline.. Anderson,Gorter,Hart,Fraser,Cahill,Blee.

Maybe some of them have had new dentures and will be hard to recognise for a second or two. The mullets, black DB's and black and blue flanalett shirts will give it away.
