Before you launch into creating Cometti as the apostle to lead the WAFL to the safe land beware what his motives are (and this is not that I disagree but beware the promises made by the snake oil salesman).

West Perth man or not, Cometti is the only media man I know who has the guts to go public and back the WAFL. And this from a man who makes his crust from the AFL. I think over analysing Cometti's garlic muncher connections is another way of avoiding the core of what this issue is all about. This is exactly what I am talking about, in regard to a lack of accountability with our club and the weak commission.

There is nothing wrong with Cometti hating East Perth, the same way East Perth dislike them. It is a thing called rivalry and its healthy. You cop it, and when its their turn they cop it back.

Dennis loves the WAFL and I think he even hurts when he see's the extent of deterioration.

Great post Jardine.

Cometti can speak his mind because he is so well respected in the media and can rock the boat without fear of it affecting his employment. I think Whateley and Sheehan are others in similar positions.
Hacks like Hagdorn and co. haven't got the credibility so must stay on the good side of the AFL clubs to ensure that pressure doesn't come on their positions.

Great posts by everybody, except Grump.
He is still trying to almost justify the unjustifiable. I can't believe he is even critical of the only media person with the guts to stand up to these competition destroyers in WCE and Fremantle. The only others I have heard are Judge and Wheeldon on the ABC. As Cometti and others on here are saying, are Fremantle going to have any credibility arguing this host club change if they win the premiership. NO.

I am not trying justify anything I am but expressing an opinion about my opinion about Commetti's credibility, in my eyes only!

I have listened to him for many years, accepted him as a very good commentator in the past but not now. I have also spoken to him about his opinions about various things in football usually on ABC radio and I find that I am agreeing but more times disagreeing. Something I thought I was allowed to do, obviously not!

Justify NO expressing an opinion about someone professing to want to save the WAFL mmmmm!

Oh and just as an aside where was he with his comments at the beginning, the middle, just at the end!

Excellent article jardine. I think you've opened a can of worms in many people's minds and made us think...my God, what if it had been my club?? From my point of view, a scary thought.

He makes an interesting point on the crowd not looking like 20,000. I was watching the crowd number on the scoreboard during the match and it was in the 19000s at half time and crept up a little in the 3rd quarter then all of a sudden in the last quarter it popped just over 20k.

Seems a dodgy to me - would anyone have arrived during the last quarter? Would anyone have been there on the gate to scan them in? Smells of a desperate WAFC bumping the numbers up to sneak over the 20k mark to try to avoid embarrassment

Well said Jardine and most will agree. Cometti one of the few WA media people who says it like it is whereas most of the others follow the party line.
The alignment is certainly going to be a hot topic next year as it has this year. Sad for a few EP players yesterday who through no fault of their own will not be playing league for EP next year. Hopefully they will be allowed to move to a G7 club and continue playing?
I can see the WAFC bringing in rules to prevent the mass exodus from happening at Peel and EP..

It is a shame when our Governing organisation cannot protect the WAFL as we know it. Loyalty and transperancy are certainly words they dont know. We can throw in Adminstration skills with that as well. There are certainly Lots of Spin doctors in the WAFL/WAFC and amongst the media who want to keep their jobs.. Bloody sheep!

It was the protests of the Presidents of the other clubs who saw the Alignements of 2000-2002 period being scrapped as it was unfair on clubs outside of the alignment. This is documented. YET THEY CHOOSE TO DO IT AGAIN!..

Pathetic and this NEW (well old) idea will go the same way. I cant see it going 5 years but what oppurtunities will be missed out on in the time it is around. History will be non-history again.
This message represents the official view of the voices in my head

All grand finalist's this year. Only West Perth not aligned to an AFL club.

Is this the sign of things to come across all state leagues??

Geez I hope not mate! The Box Hill flag would mean absolutely F##kall to anyone other than the 22 and coaching staff..non of the passion I witnessed in the WP rooms afterwards or in the rooms after the mighty Ducks in 2010 would be close to being matched by Box Hill or Geel ressies or any alignment. Only the SANFL premiers will get close this year (out of North Adelaide, West Adelaide and Norwood.
The AFL is arseholeing any culture and passion in footy all because of $$$. It wont last because people are smarter than that.
Leedy and I had a great chat with Chris Keunans old man after and he was summed things up in a similar fashion

Swandog what happens next year in the SANFL and their move to reserves, is it going to be the same, to me it seems like all of the state comps are being butchered to the 'betterment' of the local greek epl rather than the grassroots comps.

Do you know if the same situation is in the NSW and QLD, are their teams aligned to any specific teams, I think it is but not sure.

If it is the case are then going to see another tier of football put inbetween the states and the AFL and what are the consequences of such a comp!

The WAFL will be reduced to something less tan any of us care to imagine!

If a builder tried to demolish a heritage listed building, the community would be outraged and would protest accordingly. If a developer tried to tear out a 130 year old tree, he would not be permitted to do so unless there were valid reasons and adequate consultation. Why then are we allowing the WA Football Commission to tear apart the history and fabric of the WAFL competition and turn it into a contrived AFL talent development program? The integrity of the WAFL competition will be seriously compromised with the alignment model in 2014, and for what? The Fremantle Dockers clearly don't need any assistance as their progress into the AFL Grand Final attests. Hands off the WAFL!
