Oh ouch!
That will give gavin and all the cronies at HQ a big slap in the face!
They won't like this result at all...

Just had a look at the online scores and Is fantastic to see Subiaco power on in the last quarter for the 15 point win over the pink tutu's.

A W in the results column is better than an L but I can say with absolute certainty that outcome is not too far away. We were ordinary against a WaCkERs team that was very inexperienced and on paper at least, we should have buried them given Will Schofield and Waterman didn't play. We lacked polish, skill execution and good decision making and were carried to the line by Horsley, Newton, Deluca, Lockyer and Heal. Tim Sutherland was soundly beaten in the ruck and around the ground by a kid barely 19....Sokol is a shadow of himself from last year, Beverley, Miller and Fullgrabe all struggled and I don't think are up to it....all in all a disappointing effort on a day that wasn't too bad weather wise. I predicted 15 points and we were very lucky to get that exact result.

All ozfooters, bit of credit for BC, he tips his mob to win by 15 and they do, pretty impressive.

Hats off on the prediction well done BC, I would have been more inclined to go with 30 points plus after the demolition of East Fremantle the week before - perhaps the boys just got a tad over confident but I'm sure the Lions will surge back next week.
Some players are down that's true however they will bounce back, the depth is still there in the two's (however only beating little old East Fremantle a couple of weeks back by less than a goal is hardly swinging from the rafters type stuff).
As mentioned previously a couple of recruits would not have hurt the depth this year, a ruck to help Sutho out plus a key forward, with the addition of at least one midfielder would have rounded out the list nicely. Still good to go and well balanced though.

Competition going to be a beauty this year. Subis squad not what it was and sorry Sutherland leading ruck a bit of a joke. And with a new coach who may end up being a genius but is no schoey sube have to fall back.

Schoey was there today I saw him in the huddle. We are far from the premiership winning form of last year atm but there's a long way to go and wce aren't too bad...

When you consider we've really only lost Phelan and Zac Clarke from last year who were both standouts in the WAFL I admit but we're a long way off where I'm sure Wardman would like us to be. No disrespect to the young WCER boys as I thought they were terrific and hit the lead in the last quarter but our guys need to lift in intensity and output.

BC, Fridays game showed just how much we are missing Clarke, he gave our mids an armchair ride all last year and took our game to another level. Sutherland is an honest toiler but was shown up badly by a couple of big young Eagles boys who gave their very capable mids first use at most of the stoppages so we were on the back foot at stoppages for most of the day, it was really only the last half of the last quarter where we broke clear when the young WCER looked to tire a bit. We may have been lucky that Waterman was missing as he has been the the best forward in the WAFL so far. Both teams were hopelessly inaccurate in conditions that were pretty good and far better than expected, 5.14 from both teams to halftime was pretty poor from last years dominant team and a team mostly made up of fulltime pro's.

Clanger is a big out as his ruck support and physicality around the packs is so important plus he's usually good for a couple of goals when resting up forward. Having Heal back is a big plus, he's all class and really should be playing up at the next level. Locks was good keeping their key forward Mcinnes to 1 goal and Lith gave us good run out of the backline. Waters was our most efficient forward with 3 straight from 12 disposals, but despite being lively up forward Soks kicking let him down badly, could have had 4 or 5 if he'd brought his kicking boots. Our experienced mids did well to a losing ruck, Horse, Kitch and Deluca were classy all day and kept us in the game and were still running hard at the end which proved the difference when WCER made a charge and hit the front. that 3rd qtr where they took control was the first 3rd qtr we have lost in something like 30 games but credit to the boys that they found a way to win.

There were 7 missing from last years premiership team so it's reasonable to expect some settling in time for the new guys and for a new coach developing his own ways, but we are currently no where near the team we were last year and no way will we go through unbeaten or with last years ave winning margins. As much as that was great for us Lions supporters, this season is shaping up as a much closer season with Claremont looking to be the big contender and the D's playing some good footy finally finding how to win games that for years they would have dropped. Some good challenges in the next 4 weeks with Peelmantle, Souths and Claremont, after that, we will have a much better idea where we are at.

Thanks for that honest summary SS.What in your opinion is the difference between this year and last year? Will Waterman have what it takes to be there in September? Did anyone manage to catch up with Schoey as I heard he was at the game. It goes to show how loyal he is to the club, just being there.

Schoey was a once in a generation coach. How many years did you get out of him, 6?, when he probably could have gone to AFL for five of those. And then 7 missing from last year's gf the new bloke is doing a good job - warming the seat for horse.
