AR I just noticed no Laurie Keene, Dwayne Lamb or Phil Scott in your side?

2 of those 3 would probably be walk-ups, with Scott a handy person to have on the pine.

Any reason for leaving out pre-1990 Eagles?

jack: I excluded the Eagles players for a few reasons

out of interest
to stress the Victorian aspect --hence I included Zanotti and MacNish because they played for Geelong and Fitzroy
because we had already picked a Subi Eagles side

NB: If you were picking a full Subiaco side what do you think about the following?

Scott would not get in before Fitzpatrick or Keene
MacNish would not get in ahead of Blackmore, Featherby and Kemp
Zanotti would not get in ahead of Hamilton and Bowe and Faul

Regarding players - agree re Scott, who I would also rate behind Peter Burton.

MacNish, also agree. I would rate Blakemore ahead of Feathers and Kemp.

Although my first memories of watching Subi were either 58 or 59, I wasn't around in the 30s for Bowe (10 games only, apparently) or Faul.

As for Alex Hamilton, while I played A-grade (State League) baseball with him for a couple of years and loved him as a guy and ball player, I wouldn't rate him that high for his time at Subi.

He was seriously quick on the diamond. He had opposing infielders with nervous jitters, given his well known ability to beat out infield hits, which for the rest of the team would have seen us routinely thrown out at 1st base.

jack -- thanks for your post -- from what I have read, Peter Burton was a great ruckman, so I would agree with you.

'Snowy Hamilton played for us in the 1920s, he was a South Australian, according to Ken Spillman's book, and was picked in SA's best ever team on the half-back line.

Thanks for the story on Alex Hamilton -- he was a great EP and Subi man. We missed hi very much when he went back to the Royals in 1982.
