An interesting and challenging time for the club and you'd think after the highs of this year there'd be only one way and that's down. A new coach whomever that may be, no principal sponsor committing as of yet, no AFL seats deal to top up the coffers, potentially losing Deluca and maybe Zac Clarke back into the AFL system...you'd think there'd be some retirements amongst the likes of Wheeler, Stevenson, Cockie, Phelan maybe Kitchin or even Horsley for that matter. The upside is some good kids coming through the colts and ressies on the back of flags in both grades. If the bulk of the senior playing group recommits to 2019 then I'd think we'll be thereabouts again but also suggest the new coach will have a big say on how we go and whether he can build on the terrific work done by Schoey. Time will tell I guess.

BC I'm sure the WAFC are nervous. They don't want to see the benchmark of the competition dropping their lofty standards. If Subi fail to make the top 4 next year then the WAFC will act swiftly. I can't see anything less than points and salary cap concessions, maybe a top up payment or two to right the mighty ship.

If EF, Perth and Swans were to make the top 5 next year the WAFC will see that as them having failed.

very droll DD. I think EF and Perth will both be improvers next year based on structural changes at EF and much better on field performance at Perth this year. How much both will improve is anyone's guess but think both teams will give the top 5 a shake.

Haha we'll see BC. I won't be putting any of my hard earned on Perth making further strides forward. Historically after a promising season after just falling short of finals we go 3 steps backward the following year. Hope I am wrong this time.

Is that allowing for the fact that it is likely to be a 10 team comp next year ?

I thought WCE reserves side wasn't a team per se competing for null point.........leaving 9 teams in the comp still?

Beau Wardman announced as Subi's new league coach. Townsend flagged he was the front runner but I thought they'd go for an ex-AFL assistant for sure. I'm not sure how much experience he has other than 2 years coaching colts but obviously the club see's something in him.

I thought I'd bring this back to the top now that the squad is pretty much done and dusted. I think we should be thereabouts again after only losing Zac Clarke and Chris Phelan from last years GF side (bugger and bugger) but picking up Harry Marsh and a few returnees to the fold. As for me, I'm signing off for a month as I chase the northern lights in Iceland and check out Spain and Portugal meaning I'll miss the preseason and game 1. Best of luck to the boys and all the other teams this year when you're not playing the mighty maroon and gold....Go Subi!!!

Have a great holiday BC. My son saw the Aurora in Canada a month or so ago and it was pretty spectacular apparently. Did I read somewhere that Harry Marsh may be targetted by a few AFL clubs under the preseason draft? I am hoping that a few of the other teams can challenge Subiaco a little more than 2018 this year just for the sake of the competition. Claremont look the best placed to do that at this stage with a few coming back.
