What an abysmal game of footy, neither side could hit the side of a barn when shooting at goal on a perfect day for footy in near perfect conditions .... although the surface did look like it was shifting a little underfoot.
Peel continually flooded so we had 36 players inside our 50 nearly all day, but eventually many of their AFL players simply lost interest and put the cue back in the rack, Hampson's wonderful last quarter was a clear example, he was well held all day but broke loose with 4 match winning goals in the last.
Our goal kicking woes are now at crisis point, it cost us the EF game and the opportunity to draw level with Swans who are now starting to show some cracks.
Losing Boland to a hammy is a major blow in a season where injuries to key players has had a huge effect on our performance, if not for the great depth in the ressies we would be outside the 4 and really struggling. McDougal was terrific, his marking power is a huge plus and along with Frank the tank forms a formidable ruck combo that may allow us to break even with the Eagles next time we play them. It allows Clanger to play CHB which is where he is needed as our backline lacks height at the moment. With Boland out we desperately need Delahunty back as he is one of the class forward/rucks in the comp and will allow us to rotate him, McDougal & Stockley to rotate through FF 7 the bench.
Yarran could have had a blinder if he kicked straight, ended up with 1.6 I think, got his hands on it a lot and assisted with a couple of goals with cleaver handball. Horse continues with his stellar form and was clearly BOG, McDougal, Leishman, Jimmy Garcia, Clanger, lefanu all good contributors. Missed Chris Deluca's forward pressure and aggression, word is he was dropped for disciplinary reasons, would not have been for form, missed a session I believe so he will be welcomed back after the bye.
Massive game against the old foe up at Arctic park, they always play well against us no matter where they are on the ladder, hopefully Boland will be back after 2 weeks off along with Dela and Schoey has set aside 2 weeks of goal kicking practice!!
And what a disgraceful debacle by Peel and the Freo footy club to hold back 2 players from a WAFL game so they can do the AFL warm up. Rules need to be in place where if they are not available for the first bounce they cant play. Just another clear sign of AFL/WAFC disrespect for the WAFL competition.
