I just got home from Shark Park where Subi got over the line by 23 points.  A pretty willing affair with both sides going at it which meant the game wasn't pretty at times with some sloppy ball work and missed connections but all in all I think the coaches and players will be satisfied with the commitment and pressure around the contest.  We were missing a few as were EF you'd think but ours included Delahunty, Max Walters, Harry Marsh, Nick Martin, Haydn Kennedy and so on.  In the forwards Borchet was terrific and gee it's great to have him back fit.  Sokol did some good things and Brandon Matera flashed in and out with his forward half pressure acts first class before subbing out just after half time with a knock to the leg which didn't look serious.  They played Aaron Heal up front which didn't work as he was hardly sighted.  In the mids Kitch was probably best on ground but did expose our lack of quality midfielders with Benny Newton and Horse both retiring.  Lewis Upton got in and under and was noticeable, Greg Clark played as a full time mid and did a few good things, the Hickmott's were ok but overall, I think we'll get exposed through the midfield against the likes of SF and Cl.  One good thing was the game of Lewis Putt in the ruck.  He was outstanding against a bigger bodied Strnadica and matched him in the stoppages but probably won around the ground.  The backs all played well and worked together which is understandable given they've been together as a group for a few years now.  Lockyer and Litherland the cornerstones, Rhode was good, Stainsby got a bit of it, Braut come on after half time and was in the mix straight away.  All in all a good hit out when you consider a lot of young blokes got exposure to the big time.  One last thing as that I've come to the conclusion Jono Marsh is a certifiable nut.  This guy is on another planet and so glad we didn't pick him up.

Thanks for the summary BC, was unable to attend due to work so appreciate that. Did any of the colts from last year play and make an impression?

No colts from last year that I could see Jjim. Vanirsen was on the playing sheet but didn't suit up....or had a bloody quiet game if he did.

Vanirsen played he was number 3. He kicked a goal but was otherwise fairly quiet. Agreed Putt was good, he got the better of Strnadica & no 25, Bonomelli? and looks like a good prospect. Wil Hickmott has some pace, great solo effort in the 4th, burned everyone off with a good long run at goal but unfortunately couldn't finish it off

Cheers DG. I saw #3 running around and knew it wasn't Haydn Kennedy so thanks for clearing it up. 25 was Hugh Dixon for them and didn't do a great deal.

Haha, we had a certifiable nut in the grandstand today at Rushton Park. I won’t say his name he’ll probably sue me. The guy has a screw loose. There is speculation he might be a member on here.

Without your summaries I don't know when or if we would have heard how the scratchie went! I have been looking on the club webpage and FB but there is nothing about the leadup to it or a summary of the game. But it does give write ups of the women's games!! Thanks for your summaries fellas, keep up the good work.

Also noticed one of our other recruits played and kicked a goal, Bailey Holt from mpnfl, I'd say he came over here with Chad Harris as he played in that league also

Thanks BC, not a bad effort given the outs. Just a scratchie but a good start against a team that is viewed as big improvers this season. 23 points but we had a lot more shots at goal which indicates we were perhaps better than the score implied.

Great to hear Putt had a good game against quality opposition, we have been screaming out for a competitive ruckman since Clarke left, Dela was great but he's really a ruck-rover and the more time he can spend as a pure mid the better the team will be. Test for Putt and the club comes next week against the reigning premiers and raging 2021 favourites Souths. They are the clear measuring stick so hopefully we make a good showing against them. Will be great to go into a season with far less expectations on the team. Expect we will be fielding a team closer to our starting 22 for this game.
