So who would Big Glen (Waterson or Browning?) & Nifty Nev (Bomber or Willo?) replace then Freeze?

gtr -- so true -- and just going back a bit further to 1981, the fact was South did go the knuckle against that very good CL side in the gf, and the tigers stood up well.

Considering Durnthaler peaked in the 74 GF BH with his 2-3 goals, a deplorable Subi only picked him in their 2 win 1980 season a handful of times...the fella would of easily been mid to late 30s by 84 and 86....so unfortunately no spot for the guy...cooked well n truly by 1980.

as for Nifty....like Durnthaler peaked in the 70s...and he was well n truly cooked by 83, I would of hate to of seen the footballing cooking texture of him in 84 & 86 mate...pass on Durnthaler and Nifty....

back to Norsworthy, definitely his missing 6 goal haul v SD in the 84 GF, surely cost EF their 26th flag by a point or two BH...as for the 86 GF...think Norsworthy wouldn't of been on Keene's radar as much as Bushell was..so who knows how many goals the fella could of kicked...few more then what Bushell actually kicked that day I say...LOL

I daresay Bushell was targeted by angry Lions players that season for his extremely poor form that year in pushing the poor old Subi trainer over the fence for daring to get in his way on the outer wing at Subi Oval Freeze!

Spot on BH....it was that gutless act that made him the bad guy plus the fact he was a dirty sod. I was at Shirley Strickland Oval one Sunday around that time in 86 watching Applecross when he turned up with Wrensted. Bushell had a go at some old bloke about something and the old gent kicked his thongs off and promptly sat Bushell on his arse with a short jab to the chest. To give Bushell his due he didn't carry on and just walked away but it was pretty to watch nonetheless.

Got no probs with what Bushell got BH, I was at the game when Bushell did his dog act, was immensely embarrassed.....pretty sure Norsworthy wouldn't of done it, thus my comment the Subi boys wouldn't of targeted MN in the GF, like they did Bushell......the latter was fully deserved.....

ArkRoyal wrote: We should not compare 1986 to our era, even the relatively strong mid 2000s side

Here is a side made up from Subi's reserves in 1986:

backs

Western Roberts Mundy

Half backs

Greenwood Monoghan Gray

Centres

Rachih Spencer Steinerpries

half forwards

Dawson Georgeodies Mort

forwards

Sullivan Langdon Valli

Ruck

Putt Warner Lee

This reserve side would beat our mid 2000s side, never mind the league side which actually played in the gf and won the premiership. Many of the other clubs could have also fielded strong reserves sides which would have done the same.

Ark apart from the obvious choke, how do you rate our 95 side to 06-08 and to our 2018-19 sides?

DG- good question -- I would always go with the 1995 team, some great players in the team, although many were ageing as we know. Even more importantly, it played against more than capable opposition, symbolised by WP in the grand final. In many games, we only won by the odd goal, so they were genuinely deserved wins.

I am grateful to the 21 century team for winning our first ever hat trick of premierships, however, it was in an era where, peel and fremantle weakened the competition, as did the after affects of the alignments, and the fact that, many of the other clubs had no money. In the end, South put together a pretty solid team to beat us from memory, which was to their credit; the loss to South also demonstrates, to get back to the direct comparison between 1995 and the 21 century team, that, against good opposition, we struggled a bit.

correction: BH has reminded me that the competition had already started to weaken further, because, as you would remember, the Dockers were actually founded in the year (1995) --thanks Bease
