Apparently the ticket sales and crowds have been pretty bad compared to the Hopman Cup.

Doesn't really surprise me, the Hopman had some real hype and buz about it, was just thinking around NYE how they used to have the big Ball etc...

Think the international format was better as well.

Now you hardly know its on.

Next to go will be the Davis Cup. Who was Davis? We knew the Hopman's.
Dont know the Davis's. Even Margaret Court is in the shit with the Tennis management.

Tennis has always been just a minor sport in Australia in my lifetime.
It may have been bigger in the 1950s & 60s but would have still been playing second fiddle to cricket for Summer sports.

What do you define as minor Internationally? an International Grand Slam? Baseball might be a "minor" summer sport in Australia but I don't think you can describe Tennis as that. I'd say we have three major ones Cricket Tennis and Golf as Internationally rated comps go.

Cricket, Basketball, Racing & even Soccer are way bigger Spring/Summer sports than Tennis which outside of the 2 week AO is virtually nowadays barely even mentioned here.

Seems like they have been happy with the attendances in Perth with 8000+ attending two of the ties. To put it into perspective though, more than 14,000 attended the Hopman Cup match US v Switzerland last year and I think the ATP has dumped this very popular and unique event prematurely.

They got 110,000 At Perth Arena at the last Hopman Cup, this year it was about 40,000.

Basketball, Soccer...lol Racing (code for corrupt gambling) is that even a sport?

Tennis has alwas been a tournament sport, its not a week to week fixture sport so its obvious its only spoken about while tournments are on, Id say Wimbleton rates higher than Basketball when its on and so does the AO, in fact it out rates cricket at times which has been dieing rating wise for years, take out the Ashes and the crowds are crap. We just had another bore snore fest test series with Pakistan and NZ barely raising an eyebrow.

Fark me they got 110,000 at the Hopman Cup last year alone in Perth , Glory ( apart from the rare GF) would not get that all year.
