Spot on and we better start praying now that the Don wins a second term. Xi Ping might be giving instructions to Chinese keyboard warriors to get to work now on propaganda to affect the next US election. Will the Democrats complain if the Chinese meddle in the election if it goes in their favour?

DD: it is not just the Democrats whom are the problem. Can you imagine Jeb Bush confronting China?

DD if they conspire to remove the Donald. The Democrats will do zip to stop the Chinese expansion. And it will be to late for another US President to challenge China.XI would love another softy like Obama in the White House.

gtr: I think it will be like 1972 -- the very left-wing Mcgovern lost to Nixon; Warren will win the nomination but she is too left-wing to win against Trump.

Biden appears to be unwell, and in any case, he has corruption allegations against him over the Ukraine, as you know.

No end in sight and this is the real reason. Hong Kongers not allowed their own leaders. Instead under the rule of the puppets put in place by Beijing.

While the protests were ignited by the extradition law, they soon morphed into a wider movement calling for democratic reform and police accountability.

Hong Kong enjoys freedoms unseen on the Chinese mainland under the “one country, two systems” principle following the handover from Britain in 1997.

But many say those rights are being eroded by an increasingly authoritarian Beijing which has refused calls for Hong Kongers to directly elect their leaders.

that may be true, but the British and Chinese did not guarantee them free elections in 1997, which, of course is why they are campaigning for it. According to the agreement, after local consultations, members are appointed to the HK government at the whim of Peking.

The Brits did what they could in that agreement, even proposing to stay on HK island as it had been given to Britain permanently by treaty, but Peking would not have it; the main legal problem, was 'the new territories' which were leassed.

This was never going to work.

I knew in 97 the CCP would renege on the deal once they had control, democracy and the rule of law slowly sucked away.

Love Hong Kong and its people and that is the saddest thing to see it go this way. You cant have nearly 150 years of British rule of law and parliamentary ideas, and education wiped away from the minds of a society, people expect these things once engrained.

Hong Kong is the frog in the pot as far at CCP power goes v The West, just how we handle this will be an indicator on how we end up in decades to come.

My dream is for an independent city state of Hong Kong along to lines of Singapore that could one day come back as a member of the Commonwealth , but its going to be hard.
