the idea of the tariffs amd the subsidies was to give people jobs, maintain full-employment; even the Liberals of the day had that ethos.

What annoys me is that they throw subsidies at windmills without a second thought, includding 'the liberals for trees'.

Mr Shorten was at the TAFE, in the Liberal-held marginal seat of Hasluck, to announce Labor's promise to spend $3 million if elected to equip trainees to build railcars for the McGowan Government's Metronet urban rail network.

Premier Mark McGowan has promised 246 railcars will be built at a nearby Bellevue manufacturing centre.

Rather good news for the people in the Midland area I would have thought.

I tell you what would be good for Midland jack. If you could convince Wesfarmers to give those useless bastards a full time job instead of terrorizing the residents of Midland on their dirt bikes and attacking people and people's homes that would be a good start.

In case you are unfamiliar with the story.

Protectionism is a thing of the past, it actually destroys jobs in the end via uncompetativeness and sends economies into stagnation. If you think consumers would go back to the days of paying 12 months wages for a sub standard locally made TV or Fridge, you must be in cloud cuckoo land - I'm sure you done have a Astor or HMV tele at home anymore, if they were any good they would of survived.

As for Renewable Subs, I would end them all tomorrow, particularly solar panels and the overly generous buy back rates for power back to the grid. If you want them fine, but pay for it yourself.

I think you'll find that's finished now. Might be some still getting it but probably only got a year or two to go. It was set over 10 years. I had it but only had 8 panels.

Now got 20 panels at my new home. Last two bills $16.80 credit and $19. 80 after credit. It's bullshit people complaining about subsidizing those with solar panels. You can say that about everything from health to people on welfare. If you own your own home it's a no brainier. I paid $3000 for a 5kw system and I reckon it will have paid for itself within 3 years.

What's bullshit about it?, fact is you got a cash subsidy to install panels that benefit nobody else, yep I guess its the same as dole bludgers being subsidised.

Yeah, I remember they tried to shut it down and all the bums getting chucked a fit , should of told them to bugger off but they caved in and left it in place, complete rip off. People that signed up before 2011 are still getting it.,
